Jun. 29, 2009 - My bag, and yesterday.

So, I've been wanting a new bag to use as a swimming bag lately because mine faded and stuff in the wash, well Saturday I had an idea to turn one of my tank tops into a bag, but I didn't have one that I wasn't gonna use. So I decided to use a long sleeved shirt and turn it into a tank top, then a bag! So before I give you the step by step of what I did, here's what it was before I made it a bag:

(the back of the shirt) (the one on the far left)

So, what I did was...

First I cut off the sleeves to make it a tank top. After it was a tank top I did a lot of thinking and planning of how I was going to do it. Obviously I had to sew up the arm holes. lol! So, I made a seam down the whole shirt of each side to close the holes and just kinda "double-seam" the rest of the side.

This is the back side of it but you can kinda see the seams, but it's on my bed so it's crinkled up. lol!
Well, that took me a while for the first one, like a couple hours, because I kept messing it up! lol! but, practice makes perfect. lol. Then I was messing with the strap and stuff and just took it out until the end. Obviously a bag has to be closed, so I folded the ends of the shirt inside and sewed that up from the inside.

That's a picture of how the bottom of the bag looks from the outside.
Then I did sew on the strap and it ended up looking pretty good. Photobucket
I put the camera in a different mode for this picture so you could see the brightness of the bag, and yes, the strap is a rope belt that I kinda cut to fit it.
Here's the front of it:

I'm really happy with the way it turned out. I think it's really cute! I'd like to give a special thanks to my nan for teaching my how to sew and always being so helpful with that kind of stuff! I never would've done any of this without you nanny! (she also taught me how to play the guitar!)
Oh and I have a little more to post because we had a really fun day yesterday so:
After church we ate lunch at the food court at our mall, then we shopped around for a little while, and then we went to see UP, the movie. I don't know if you've seen it or not, but it was a really great movie! The message was good, and I don't know, it was just a cute movie. BUT! You know how it's 3D? Well there was like NO 3D in the movie, the commercials literally had more 3D popping out stuff than the movie. It was a great movie, but if you're only in it for the 3D you'll be disappointed. Even still it was worth watching because it was a great movie! After that we went home and had leftovers for dinner, and I worked on my bag a little bit for the finishing touches and then we had a water fight! Mom and dad bought squirt guns for the whole family and they bought a slip and slide! So we were playin' with the squirt guns and the hose and stuff and it was just a really fun day! Okay well this was probably the longest post I've had in a long time so I'm gonna go! Bye!

Dear Karlee,
I am sooooooo proud of you! I was crying for joy before I even got to the part about me teaching you to sew. You did such an amazing job figuring that all out and even giving step by step directions with pictures! I will be showing this to everyone at work!!!
Love,

Wow Karlee! You are so brave to try something like this. Only once have I not sewn with a pattern, and that was making a pair of jeans into a skirt. It came out REALLY cute. So...you are so right! This is adorable! I think I'll have to try it some time. Oh, and about the template, sometimes plain things are the best don't you agree? You said in this post you went to see UP in 3D? (by the way, we saw it too and it was one of Disney's best in a long time) and didn't the boy (I forget his name) say that some times the best things in life are the boring things? oh boy, that's deep for me! ;)
Thanks for stopping by and for your sweet comments!
