Oct. 25, 2008 - Christmas Procrastination

Every year, my husband and I set a limit of 3 Christmas gifts per each of our children. I had a difficult time with this rule at first. I want to buy everything I see, and I easily go overboard. We also don't want to spoil the kids. So we had to make a gift limit rule. Christmas has become so commercialized it's unreal. We have forgotten about Christ! At any rate, we try to make very wise choices when shopping for them. This year, I would really like to buy ds8 a Wii. He is crazy about video games and it could possibly help me in my weightloss endeavor if I got a Wii Fit. 2 birds with one stone, right?

I haven't started shopping at all. I know a lot of people are getting their shopping finished up now and it makes those folks cringe to think of not starting yet. But that's just the way things go in this house. I am also a major procrastinator. So I always say, "I'm going to start shopping on the next payday". Yeah, right! I'll be one of those sad folks in Walmart at midnight on Dec. 23. I have baking to do on the 24th, so at least I'll have it done before then. If I'm going to get a Wii though, I have to get it now. There is no way I will be able to find one in a few weeks.

Oct. 25, 2008 - Horizons Math

We just started using Horizons Math 2 and I think this is going to be a better fit for us than Math U See. Last year, we used a curriculum that used a spiral approach, which to me, was a little confusing. So I decided to try MUS, which is a mastery approach curriculum. It went to the other extreme and was extremely boring. Which brings us to Horizons, and if things continue to move in a positive direction, we will stay with it. At least until grade 6 which I believe is as far as they currently go.

Oct. 24, 2008 - Bring it on Fall !!!

I have Fall Fever. I love this time of year so much. First of all, my dear sweet hubby and I started dating in the fall. This time of year signifies cozy evenings and hot chocolate. This is also going to be my second winter with a fireplace. I had never had one until we moved into this house and I didn't know what I was missing. There is nothing like curling up with a book in a big comfy chair and a cup of hot tea or chocolate and listen to the crackling fire, while snow is pouring down outside.

Oct. 16, 2008 - My First Entry

I am brand new to blogging so I'm just going to jump in head first. We are on vacation from homeschool this week. Hubby is am amatuer photographer and he took the boys to the mountains for fall foliage pictures. They are back now, but I had already scheduled the week off, so we're going to stick to it. I also started a diet this week. I have alot of weight to lose. I went to the doctor yesterday and she gave me a sample of Alli. I am very grateful for that, cuz I had thought about buying it, but I hate to spend that much money on something that I'm not sure will work. This will give me an opportunity to check it out first. I'm really excited about losing weight. I ended a 20 year long smoking addiction about 4 months ago, and although I was already overweight, I've gained some more, which I knew would happen. I praise the Lord for delivering me from that terrible habit. There is no way possible I could have done it without Him.

So I will be blogging about lots of things, like homeschooling, marriage, kids, cooking, dieting, exercizing, and possibly sewing and/or scrapbooking. I say possibly because at this time, I do not have a working sewing maching and I haven't started scrapbooking yet. I need a hobby though, so I will be exploring at least one of these in the future.

I do hope to make some friends in the homeschool community.

God Bless!
