A Meaningful Song For Mothers

Posted in Family
I reI t
I just saw today that I never posted this...  So here it is out of the draft pile.

I recently heard this song for the first time and I was so blessed and encouraged.  It was just what I needed to hear.  Sometimes I feel like all I do is change diapers, clean the house, change diapers, keep the children in order and change diapers!    I wouldn't change this season of my life for anything, but my days are full and busy!  This just renewed my courage and vision.  I am so grateful to be a mama to six beautful children.

I also found it on played  here on youtube when I was looking for the lyrics.  I think any mama can relate.

Enjoy!

A Song for Mothers
Words and Music by Abigail Miller © 2003

I think this is the hundredth time I've said, "Don't slam the door,"
And I know I'm getting tired of sweeping Cheerios off the floor.
There's peanut butter on the kitchen curtains I just made,
And finger-printed windows in every room where they have played.
Sometimes I feel like changing diapers is all I'm living for,
But Lord when I'm before You, I know there's ever so much more.
Please help me to remember these words that You have said,
That I may see my children through Your eyes.

Chorus: Whatever you do unto one of the least of these,
You have done it unto Me.
A cup of cold water, a kiss on the knee,
Whatever you do, you've done it unto Me.

There are toys everywhere I look, there's laundry in the hall,
There are schoolbooks in the kitchen, colored pictures on the wall,
Sometimes I grow to envy those whose house is always clean,
Who have time to do the projects of which I can only dream,
Sometimes it seems like motherhood is a never-ending chore,
But Lord, when I'm before You, I know there's ever so much more,
Help me to see that everything I do can be a way
To offer up my services to You.

Chorus

"Suffer the little children to come unto Me,"
Like little children is what You wanted us to be,
There's so much that we can learn, dear Lord,
When we see our children through Your eyes.

Chorus

Whatever you do unto one of these, you've done it unto Me.
Whatever you do, you have done it unto Me.

Little Sister's New Baby Plus

Posted in Family
Today big sister made little sister a new baby doll.  Little sister was thrilled and has been carrying it around all day and being such a good little mama.  Must be fun to be a big sister and make little things for little sister and see her have so much fun with it.   The little bag is filled with items needed to care for baby doll...

The little bag is filled with items needed to care for baby doll...

In other news, I have been busy here keeping up with school, sewing and such.  I had a number of items cut out like swimmsuits for my big girls, skirts for them as well and jumpers for my little girl and a couple of skirts for myself.  I was blessed with some help from friends and we had a sewing bee and got skirts and the swimsuits for the girls sewn, plus the jumpers.  It was a fun day and I was thankful for the help!  I was wondering how I was going to fit in all  that sewing.    Still have a list of sewing projects, but not as long as before!

Here I was trying to get some sewing done, baby was not content to lay in the carriage, so I placed him in my lap, tied a scarf around us and he was happy to watch me sew!  Worked well...  He was back far enough so no little fingers could be sewn.

Our baby is doing so well and such a happy, smiling baby boy!  He is so sweet, such a precious gift he is!

School is going well, if I can stay caught up to the marking.  My grade one student is reading too.  He is my challenging one, one I pray for often!  For me and him...  He loves learning, but is very hard on himself when he does wrong.  When he is happy, school goes very well.  The girls are learning and doing well, math is still a struggle, but we are managing.    They are very good about doing their school and if we will be having an extra busy day the next day or needing to be out, they will often on their own, do school for the next day.  Has been working out well.

A neat picture I took this evening, you can see the snow coming down from these clouds.

I am busy, but oh, so blessed!

Skating Fun!

Posted in Family
This winter we have been able to enjoy lots of skating!  We went once a week for five weeks with our home school group at a local arena back in Nov and Dec.   Since then we have enjoyed skating on our neighbour'ss pond, which has been great.  Sometimes it was cold, but we all had a delightful time.  These pictures were taken from the different times we have gone.

First time skating on the pond for this little boy.

Our second oldest daughter

Our firstborn

Big brother and "baby" sister

Little brother and baby sister

Mama and "baby" girl

Skaters and my dad is shoveling the snow

This boat looks a little forlorn.....  waiting for warmer days...

When we went this time, there was lots of snow on the ice, so we just made pathways through it.

Our Amish neighbours were taking ice off one end the pond.  That was fun to watch, we had never seen that done before!

The littles ones enjoyed riding on the shovel!  I love hearing them having such fun.

Our sweet daughter!  She just loves the outdoors... A girl after her mama's heart.

It has been wonderful to enjoy times with the childern, They are with us for such a short time.  God is good!

Pictures of the Day

Posted in Family
Just thought I would share some pictures from our day today.

One of the first things that was done right after breakfast was bundling up and heading outside!  K. went out and played in the snow for the first time and she throughly enjoyed.
Here is big brother and little sister ready to go outside.

This is fun, mama.

After playing outside, I found her sitting in front of the wood stove.  She must have been warming herself and I just knew I had to take a picture. You can see her sweet face in the glass door too.

N. practicing his piano.
Spending time rocking our precious baby boy.

B. busy playing with the Bendominos and he was also the one who put the puzzle together.

Sweet K.  She was telling someone to be quiet...

The girls and I are sewing a bigger rag quilt for K.  We are almost done all the sewing, then comes the clipping.  Hope to finish that tomorrow.  I also managed to sew myself a skirt today and  I am very pleased with how it turned out too!

We had a lovely day here.  Of course, this is just a part of what we did today, laundry, meals, clean up,  more piano, diaper changes and so on made up the rest of the day.  God is good!

Farmer Boy

Posted in Family
Recently, just Farmer Boy and I went to the barn to take care of our horse, Cinnamon.  Usually it is the girls and I that go each morning.

Here we are heading of to the barn, of course, we can't miss the opportunity to walk through the puddles.

One happy boy to be going with mama to the barn!

Cinnamon saying "Good Morning!"

Farmer Boy saying hi to the horses. The other horse in the background belongs to friends.

Farmer Boy was delighted to be in charge of the water hydrant.

Then he wanted to help me muck out Cinnamon's stall.

Barn work done and the horses happy to be eating a bit of hay outside.
I have been enjoying going out in the morning, while it is still dark and heading with the girls to the barn.  I think the girls enjoy having me along too.  I just love country living!

We are all doing well, my days are full with homeschooling, homemaking and being a wife and mama.  Throughout the day, I will have thoughts and ideas for blog posts, but by evening, baby may be fussy, or I'm too tired to even think about blogging.    This is a busy season, but I'm happy.

Our Hike In The Woods

Posted in Family
This afternoon while the little ones slept and daddy had a rest, the older four children and I went exploring in our own woods.  When I gave the suggestion, it was met with cheers!

First stop was to say hi to Cinnamon and Flicka - Flicka is our friends horse.

They started to follow us for a bit.

The pond on our neighbour property. I use to skate on this pond when in my teens.  :)  At that time my parents owned it.

Our happy 6yr old son.

Our bouncy 4 yr son....

Entering the woods, we followed a deer path most of the time.  The woods are just full of deer paths!
At one time it took us through what reminded me of the slough in Pilgrim's Progress.  Our woods backs onto some wetlands.

R. sitting on a vine

My big girl

Our four young explorers...

Geese flying overhead
R.'s first response to the water is, "I wouldn't want to swim in there, looks like an alligator pond."  :)

Just after we left the woods, we heard a rustling in the tall grass beside us, there was this wild turkey trying to get away through the fence.  If you look hard you can see the turkey in this picture.

On our way home!
It was an enjoyable hike and the children hope to do it again soon.    God is so good.

A Horse And So Much To Learn

Posted in Family
Having a our own horse has been quite the learning experience.  The girls have really enjoyed having Cinnamon and we have learned a lot and we are still learning.   I have now riden her and it was lovely, I just need to build my confidence around her now.  She is really good with S, our oldest daughter, but around me, she likes to put her ears back and will bit if given the chance.  Not good at all!!  So I need to let go of my fears and show her I am not afraid and that she needs to respect me.  I have worked with her and cleaned her hooves etc....  so I know it will come.  I have been reading up on horses and what to do in certain situations, so now it is just putting it all into practice.

Here is S. with Cinnamon

Apples, Apples, And More Apples

Posted in Homemaking
This past week we have been doing a bit of applesauce every day.  Yesterday morning, we went apple picking with friends and had a lovely time out picking apples for applesauce and apple cider.

Doesn't he look thrilled with this large apple?!

Another happy helper, although she had more fun running around then picking up apples.

Climbing the tree

My big girls picked lots of apples!

Taking time to nurse the baby.    All the fresh air must have tired the baby out, because he then sleep all afternoon yesterday, he just woke up to nurse and then went right back to sleep.

Sleeping peacefully

Our willing, yet careful helpers.

They were delighted to be able to help with this, they were very careful too.

Filling the jars....

Removing any air bubbles

And here is the pretty pink applesauce!  It is so delicious too!

First smile to be caught by the camera!

Wide awake...

Sleeping again...  he does do a lot of that.  :)

I feel so blessed!  I hope to share his birth story soon, just haven't had the chance to sit here at the computer long enough to type it out, but it is coming soon!

Just wanted to add...  We thank you for all of your sweet comments!  We are so very blessed and enjoying our new baby very much.

It's a Boy!

Posted in Family
Just a quick note to let you all know our precious baby boy was born this morning at 2:39am, weighing in at 9lb 9oz and 22 1/4 " long.   He is beautiful and we have named him Micah, still deciding on the second name. We arrived at the hospital at 1:30am and we arrived back home shortly before six. I will post more later sometime, but birth went well and we are all rejoicing here in the goodness of the Lord.   He heard and answered my prayers concerning labor and delivery.

Today, I'm planning to snuggle dear little Micah and rest!
