A Journey Like No Other

Discoverying the Mission of Motherhood

This is such a wonderful book, and one I really needed right now.

Here is a quote in the first chapter that really stood out to me:

"God designed motherhood to be a deeply meaningful role. We mothers have the opportunity to influence eternity by buildeing a spiritual legacy in the lives of our children. Through our teaching and influence, morality can be learned and modeled, love and kindness are taught and received, purpose and vision are ignited and passed on. The real ablity of a mother to secure such a spirtitual legacy is based on the strength of her relationship with her child."

This quote excites me and scares me at the same time! I am really working on my relationship with each child - I want my relationships with my children to show I love them, care for them, and want to be there for them, but right now I don't know if that is what they feel from me.

I love how in this book she draws me to scripture. Here are some notes from the 'Thought and Reflection' section in the back.

Psalm 127:1 - "Unless the Lord builds the house it's builders labor in vain"

In the OT, the word house is often used to express the same concept as the English words for family or home. This struck me pretty powerfully. God needs to build everything in our home life, or it will fail, it will be all in vain! I am coming to realize it's not about the perfect house, the perfect training, and obedient children, don't get me wrong those are nice, but it's my dependence on Jesus Christ and having him be the head of it all, having Him lead my steps that will make it house and a family fit for him.

1 Thessalonians 2:7 - But we proved to be gentle among you, as a nursing mother tenderly cares for her own children.

I don't know if I have been so tender lately! I have been praying for the Lord to change my heart and attitude. I don't ever want to view my children as a burden, or something that is in my way, to get the cleaning done, or fold the laundry, or check my email! I want to be nurturing them, and making sure they will be in the Kingdom of Heaven with me. I want to be loving them, and have their hearts. And I want them to know they have mine as well.

This job  is so much harder that I ever imagined, but I am glad I don't have to do it alone, I am so happy Jesus will be with me every step of the way - now if only I will allow him to, and ask him to! That is my prayer that I will allow Jesus to help me and ask for help every step of the way.
