RIVERS OF LIVING WATER ACADEMY

Where we allow the flow of the Holy Spirit to lead us:
  • To know who we are,
  • To know where we are going,
  • To know what we are doing,
  • To know when we need to do it,
  • and to know how to go about it!

"He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'" ~ John 7:38 (NASB)

Aug. 14, 2008 - Why We Homeschool

Why We Homeschool

All Scripture is quoted in NASB unless notated.

...as an act of obedience to God.

“Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD?  To obey is better than sacrifice…” ~ I Samuel 15:22

“… Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s; and to God the things that are God’s.” ~ Matthew 22:21

...to serve God.

“…as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” ~ Joshua 24:15

...to train our children in righteousness AND in life skills.

“Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.” ~ Proverbs 22:6

...to discover the God-given calling and raise them to fulfill it by directing lessons to cultivate passion within them to pursue God.

Also, just as spiritual gifts need to be fanned into flame, so, too, do gifts bestowed upon us during our physical formation by God:

"…fan into flame the gift of God.”

2 Timothy 1:6

…to encourage my daughter to be stewards of the gifts and talents that God has given to her.

The Parable of the Talents, Matthew 25:14-30.

...for the glory of God.

“Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do,

do all to the glory of God.” ~ I Corinthians 10:31

...to teach our children that God is Creator.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” ~ Genesis 1:1

...to teach our children that God is their Creator.

For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well.” ~ Psalm 139:13, 14

...to teach my daughter to love the Lord their God with all their heart and soul and strength every possible moment.

“The LORD is our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” ~ Deuteronomy 6:4-9

...to teach my daughter that Scripture thoroughly equips her for every good work.

“…and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” ~ 2 Timothy 3:15-17

...to teach my daughter that God will take care of ALL our needs, if we seek God first and His righteousness.

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” ~ Matthew 6:33

Also see Daniel, chapter 1

...to teach our children the fear of the Lord.

“You shall fear the LORD your God; and you shall serve Him…”

~ Deuteronomy  10:20

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, fools despise wisdom and instruction.” ~ Proverbs 1:7

Aug. 9, 2008 - ID Cards

I printed and laminated our ID cards for 2008-09 school year. The ID cards will be helpful in obtaining discounts at local stores, and even ID for my daughter to carry with her if she is ever asked why she isn't in school. She she goes to her grandmas or her sister, she carries the ID with her.

The above template is my own template I created using text boxes in Word. However, I did find a website that you can get yours for FREE!! You do not need to become a member. PLUS, you can print it yourself.

You can't beat that!!

Aug. 5, 2008 - Famous Homeschool Quotes

Famous Quotes

A child cannot be taught by anyone who despises him. - James Baldwin

A little learning is a dangerous thing; drink of it deeply, or taste it not, for shallow thoughts intoxicate the brain, and drinking deeply sobers us again. - Alexander Pope

All men who have turned out worth anything have had the chief hand in their own education. - Sir Walter Scott

Children require guidance and sympathy far more than instruction. - Anne Sullivan (Helen Keller's teacher)

Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire. - William Butler Yeats

Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper. - Robert Frost

Great spirits have always been violently oppressed by mediocre minds. - Albert Einstein

I have never let my schooling interfere with my education. - Mark Twain

I learned most, not from those who taught me but from those who talked with me. - St. Augustine

Our aim in education is to give a full life. We owe it to them to initiate an immense number of interests. Life should be all living, and not merely a tedious passing of time; not all doing or all feeling or all thinking - the strain would be too great - but, all living; that is to say, we should be in touch wherever we go, whatever we hear, whatever we see, with some manner of vital interest. - Charlotte Mason

The secret of education is respecting the pupil. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you. - B.B. King

Hide not your talents, they for use were made. What's a sun dial in the shade? - Benjamin Franklin

Aug. 4, 2008 - A Poem

The Living Water

God is the Living Water

An Ever-flowing Tide

The steady Rock of Ages

An Ocean, vast and wide.

He restores my fleeting spirit

Puts spring into my step

Adds a bit of sunshine

Where Godly things are kept.

He is a Sure Foundation

Removes the doubts and fear

When I am overcome by life

His voice, I often hear.

He is the Rose of Sharon

The Keeper of my Soul

The Lily of the Valley

The One who makes me whole.

He is a Gentle Current

A River, running free

My Refuge at the harbor

An Anchor on life’s sea.

He is the Living Water

The Fruit upon the Vine

The Grapes when I am hungry

The Essence and the Wine.
