Some felted hats

Posted in Knitting

Grrrr... just spent ten minutes typing this out only to hit refresh by accident and have it disappear! (I'll use my smiley mad guy early on today!)  Anyhow- Since I started knitting this summer I got the book Hip Knit Hats out of the library and it has a ton of great hat patterns.  Living in an area where we get LOTS of cold and snow, hats are a necessity (not to mention quick and easy to knit with four children running around messing up my counting =)  My first exploration into felting wool was the hat Cesca in the book which is a bucket style hat that pairs wool with a novelty eyelash yarn.  I used some turf green lambs pride and paired it was some fun fur.  It turned out cute and I really likes it-so did my mom and MIL and they both wanted on fro Christmas (demanding, demanding =) so I made my mom purple one from Knit Picks Wool of the Andes bulky- not anywhere near as nice as lamb's pride!- and a purply fun fur.  Now she wants a scarf to match made out of the fun fur.  I LOVE  my MIL hat- I used black Lana (discontinued unfortunately) and a cool black eyelash with some shimmery strands.  It felted great and looks so cool, if MIl doesn't like it or wear it I am taking it back!  After that I decided I didn't want a hat like my mom and MIL so I'm making more of a cloche shaped hat out of a deep pink peace fleece.  It's coming out quite nicely but the peace fleece is a bit rough so it's not too fun to knit with.  Here's a picture of the three bucket hats- they look much, much better in real life
