Death of Ping
Posted in
Life
We named all of the chicken eggs andmy oldest son named one Ping after the duck in a book. He always would remind us to be careful of Ping and when we'd do the candling he'd want to do Ping. Which was fine, but candling is a job best done by one. I moved our makeshift candling machine (a flashlight in a shoe box) back on the book base and my son slipped with poor Ping. I should've just let him do it alone- I forgot how independent 8 year olds are. But anyhow poor Ping had a tiny crack on his bottom so we chose to crack Ping open and check out 11 day old development. It was incredibly cool and sad, but the eyes are HUGE, and Ping even had a few tail feathers! The rest of the eggs will be left alone, unless one starts to smell them we will have to candle them to see which one is bad. And we will rename one of the live chickens Ping so all should be well. Our "barn" is arriving tonight- Yippeeee!!!! It's gorgeous and the perefct size for us.
