Dedicated to the Biblical Principle of
Deuteronomy 6:5-8

"Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates."

Jun. 19, 2006 - Art Curriculum: Artistic Pursuits
Schooling Adventures

I have finally found an art curriculum to use for the fall!!  This looks like the perfect thing to teach the kids very specific techniques yet allow them the artistic freedom to decide what exactly to draw.  I love that they divide all the upper levels into two sections.  The first book is artistic element and composition and the second book is color theory.  Each book is designed to take a year to complete if you do art 2x/week.

In the past we have been involved in co-ops where the children had wonderful art teachers and I really didn't have to worry about art.  In the early elementary years we studied and played around with different art mediums as we used our Five in a Row Curriculum.  The kids love art, but with my lack of experience I had to choose just the right curriculum.  Oh, did I mention this also includes a certain level of art appreciation with every unit!

I have never had any formal art training and all the artistic elements I have learned was through scrapbooking.  I am so excited about the curriculum I am going to buy myself a set of art supplies and learn right along with the kids!

Jun. 19, 2006 - We liked this

Posted by Littlebitofeverythingmama

as well! I looked at it last year at the bookfair and really liked it. I was actually considering it again this year, but because they do some art with MFW, we are going to skip it. C is not into art at all. So, we aren't pressing the issue. But P is a little artist and I believe that next year, she is really going to want to dive in and start some formal art instruction.

Please let me know how you like this as you begin using it!!

I am so glad you found an art curriculum that you like. We are using How great thou Art. We really are enjoying it. I had a hard time teaching art to Josiah in the past but it has really helped. Looks like you found a winner also. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I'm planning to use this in the fall, too - I'm excited about the art history element being taught right alongside the "doing" of art.

Jul. 1, 2006 - We are Using this Program

And loving it. We are about half way through the first book for the Jr. High program and are SO glad we discovered it. Ds's art has seriously improved since starting this program - but most significantly, so has his confidence. I would sing the praises of Artistic Pursuits to anyone.
