I have been terrible about blogging, but image that, I get busy and don't think to blogg
Edited - I enrolled the oldest 3 with Kolbe today. We will add what we have at home to supplement as needed and will be using McGuffey's Eclectic Readers, instead of Catholic National Readers as we have them already.
Morgann is going to do the Pre-school Sing, Spell, Read and Write .

We got It's a Mystery! The Secret Garden for the girls this summer and then in the fall they are going to start Little Flowers Girls' Club.

Other then that, there isn't much going on here. We are gearing up for Aunt Melinda's visit in just 3 weeks, and then Nanny and Poppy's visit in July.  Also gearing up for the monsoon season. We are ordering our books now, so we can have them and start when the monsoons hit and break for 2 weeks when we have our July holiday.

The perfect answer to the question on socialization.

I am getting at lest a tote bag if not a shirt or two. I just wish they had kids shirts that would be so perfect, I know the girls would wear it too.

School program for next year

Posted in School

Well it seems it is that time of  year already. Starting to plan for next year material. We have decided to go with a program we can enroll for many reasons.  We have also decided to go with someone that will let us start our school year when we want too, instead of the typically Aug/Sept start and that we will be starting right away. Then we can take off or cut back at lest while Aunt Melinda is here for 3 weeks, take a total break while Nanny and Poppy are here, and school through the monsoon season. We are hoping to be able to get all the material in so we can start right after Easter at the latest.
I ordered Morgann's material already and it should be here any day now. She will be using Sing, Spell, Read and Write Preschool.
The other three will be using Our Lady of Victory.  But we are not enrolling with them till 7th grade, till then we will just use their material and do the record keeping and grading our selfs like I have been.

Finally a new school name.

Posted in School

Well since I started this post and posted it without writing the post itself, I figured I better edit it.
Yes we did settle on a name. They had lots of problems since they were sure Timothy wouldn't want a school with a flower in the name and they couldn't agree on a Saint at all. So they didn't want to be stuck with something long term and I said no changing it next year we went with Elementary School, instead of Academy, School or Learning Center(was one of their picks) so this way they can change it in a few years. I am doing shirts and bags for them(they asked) and we have letter we can use instead of the whole name this way also.
The winner is something that is easy and true to our school. The girls are learning Latin and their school is at home so they went with the Latin word for home:
Domus Elementary School or DES for short.
We, by that I mean me, are coming up with colors, and a image for it also. Once that is done I will post it for everyone also.

Change in material

Posted in School

It is done I bit the bullet so to say and ordered a new reading and math program. Course I was ordering so I got a few extras too. Who can order just what they need and not a few things they want really.
I got Horizon Math for Breanna, Latin's Not So Tough Level 1 for Katelyn and Breanna, Sing, Spell, Read and Write for Katelyn. Then I got them all a Calendar and Weather Pocket Chart and  Art Kit. Now to wait for it to all come in.
We are doing a unit study on Thanksgiving for everyone this month.

Losing it slowly

Posted in School

Which I guess is better then quickly right
So we have about 6-8 weeks of school done, not bad for it only being the end of Oct and having a 6 week old baby in the house I think. Yet we have a road block, or really school block Ok not that funny, I tried..
Katelyn is still not struggling with the phonics. I was thinking the book was a level ahead of her, but I am no debating between going down a level and sticking with MCP Plaid Phonics, or going with Sing, Spell, Read and Write....
Breanna is not getting math as quickly as the Miquon is made for, and she is doing alot of practice sheets I have been printing. She is starting to fight the printed sheets, she wants to use her workbook. Now I am looking into Saxon Math or Horizons Math.

Changes in the school year already

Posted in School

Wow this year hasn't started and has had major changes. One we did the IDEA thing this year, well the contract is going to someone else, so it is a similiar program, but a different company. Which means that our order through IDEA wasn't placed.

We are waiting for more info and contact from the new people but while we are wating, I ordered on my own the courses for this year.

I made a few changes and a few things I still want to use we didn't order yet. We will wait and see how thigns are set up with the new company and make sure all teh programs are with in their area of ok to use and ok for the kids ages, not sure about them and the Korean course mainly.

So I changed a few programs, mainly for ordering ease, mainly in area that I was debating between two or three programs to start with. I change the readign progam cause the one I had picked betweent he 3 I was lookinga t I couldn't find anywhere that would do an APO order online, plus now I was able to order everything from only 2 places instead of 5 like I had been planning.

So this is what we went with:

Katelyn:

Scott Foresman Social Studies - Grade 3 - Communities

MCP Plaid Phonics

Phonics PLUS Handbook for Grades 3-6

Spelling Workout

Grammar & Punctuation Grade 3

D’Nealian Handwriting Book 3

Miquon Math
Home School Family Fitness
Health & Safety Curriculum
Art Fun!  And  Craft Fun!

Science for Real Kids Chemistry Pre-Level I

Teaching Tank

Breanna:

Scott Foresman Social Studies - Grade 1 - All Together

MCP Plaid Phonics

Literacy Lifters Book One

Spelling Workout

Grammar & Punctuation Grade 1

D’Nealian Handwriting Book 1

Miquon Math
Home School Family Fitness
Health & Safety Curriculum
Art Fun!  And  Craft Fun!

Teaching Tank

Also we will be doing a US State or Country of the week, along with our weekly Saint  and the odd and regular Holidays in the month.

The girls will be going to CCD with the church and we will be using Faith and Life at home to supplement also.

The final courses for next year

Posted in School

It is official I have ordered everything, I may have gone overboard and the girls may have a very full year. Although I think it will all work out in the end though, or at least I have faith it will.

I can't wait for it to get here, course it was from like 6 different places so it will take a bit and won't all get here together either, but that is ok.

So this is what we have gone with for each girl.

I have not ordered or even pick Danelle and Morgann's course. I did find one I really like but they don't ship to APOs so I am once again looking for something else. I might just stick with what I have. I have workbooks for 3/4 year olds and Rod and Staffs per-school course, but while they like it as it is mainly coloring with some cutting and gluing I didn't like it that much and wanted something different this year for them.

Another week over

Posted in School

The girls are ready to get back in to full time schooling and I can't wait to start either. We just have to wait for the material to get here. We are working on reading, math and history still though, but typically only one or two subjects from books a day and then some more fun hands on things. I showed them the science courses and they really want to start.

We are going to be spending 2 weeks on science and then 2 weeks on history this year instead of doing both each week. We will be splitting art and music up that way also. I am thinking of doing it with the formal gym and health course also but not sure yet. I know that health, gym, art and music will be done most of the time, but the formal course I am thinking of going back and forth with.

Danelle is excited to be starting this year too. I am ordering Rod and Staff Pre-school. I have used the Rod and Staff before with Breanna and really liked it so I will be sticking with it. I am getting Morgann the workbook set that Danelle used last year, she really liked it is from an Amish school.
