Change in material

Posted in School

It is done I bit the bullet so to say and ordered a new reading and math program. Course I was ordering so I got a few extras too. Who can order just what they need and not a few things they want really.
I got Horizon Math for Breanna, Latin's Not So Tough Level 1 for Katelyn and Breanna, Sing, Spell, Read and Write for Katelyn. Then I got them all a Calendar and Weather Pocket Chart and  Art Kit. Now to wait for it to all come in.
We are doing a unit study on Thanksgiving for everyone this month.

Losing it slowly

Posted in School

Which I guess is better then quickly right
So we have about 6-8 weeks of school done, not bad for it only being the end of Oct and having a 6 week old baby in the house I think. Yet we have a road block, or really school block Ok not that funny, I tried..
Katelyn is still not struggling with the phonics. I was thinking the book was a level ahead of her, but I am no debating between going down a level and sticking with MCP Plaid Phonics, or going with Sing, Spell, Read and Write....
Breanna is not getting math as quickly as the Miquon is made for, and she is doing alot of practice sheets I have been printing. She is starting to fight the printed sheets, she wants to use her workbook. Now I am looking into Saxon Math or Horizons Math.

We had a festive that we went to. The oldest four all dressed up as Saints again. The little two were Slumber Time Pals, ok they were just in their jammies, but they were warm and happy

Katelyn was St Joan of Arc:

Danelle, as St Dympna(Saint of mental illness):

Katelyn and Danelle:

Breanna as St Lucia, only picutre of her, she was hiding from my camera:

Morgann as Bl Kateri Tekawitha:

My Slumber Time Pals(Terresa and Timothy):

Everyone had fun.

It is hard to belive that it is the end of October already. Little Timothy is not so little, he is 15lbs already at only 6 weeks .

October is here

Posted in Random thoughts

September went so fast I can't believe it is over already. The girls are loving their new brother.  We are slowly getting back into the swing of things again. My mom has gone home, we miss her so much already.
Morgann had her 3rd birthday she is getting so big. Thankfully grandma was here for her party, she loved it. Of course she had a froggy birthday cake and got either frogs or trucks for all her gifts. She is so not a girly-girl but she is still a cutie pie. Hopefully next week I will get her cake pictures up. She helped me make it so it isn't anything great, but she loved it.
I have to thank Sheri (http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/RollsLife/) for another great idea. I have been trying to get  my oldest daughter Katelyn who is 8 more into reading and writing. Well we have been working with the Story starter idea Sheri posted some time ago and when stopping by this weekend for a visit to her blog I got another great idea I borrowed. Katelyn now has her own blog(http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/knt) and she loves the idea. She has been writing all weekend, with out being made too. She has to complete the story and then she can post it. She is also wanting to post pictures and a short bit about her weekly art class. Not only is she taken to writing but she wants to stop by Richies and Devan's blog and read their last stories too. Finally something to get her wanting to not only write, but read too. We have struggled for so long with her reading and writing and for her to ask to do either is music to my ears, and is going to help her allot in her reading class too. Her blog is empty but hopefully in a day or two she has at lest one of her stories up. I am trying to make it more child looking, but she picked out what is there. Now Breanna wants one too, so look out for a post saying I gave in and let my 6 year old start blogging too. Although Breanna loves to read and write so really I expect her blog to fill up very quickly once I let her open it. I think for her birthday I will let her open one. I want for now it to be something special for Katelyn so she doesn't give up on it. She struggles so much more then Breanna in reading and seeing Breanna just get it with out a problem makes it harder for Katelyn and makes her not want to do it even more.

August is almost over and school started today

We have been getting ready for the new baby, only a few weeks left. This weekend I am washing the bedding for the Amby Bed and hoping to finish the crib set for when he moves from the Amby to the crib. Terresa is very attached to the crib so it will be some time till she is ready to give it up, which is fine with us.

The older girls are getting excited about the new baby and starting school. Which we officially started today, with very limited books, and a lot of lessons printed off line for them. It went ok, a rough start, but my mom called as I was setting up and the girls took setting up for starting. But we got in everything I was hoping to, we only did a few subjects but it went very well. I no longer have a kitchen table again, but that is fine with me.

This week is Save your Smile week, so we are learning about teeth, and tomorrow is Angel Day. The oldest 2 picked one of their sisters name and will do two or three nice things for that sister tomorrow. We are going to talk tonight about things they can do for them. It should be fun, or at least I am hoping it is. We don't have a Saint of the week, but our Country this week is Morocco. We learned a little about it today, just a general over view. Tomorrow we will learn more about the Berbers that live there and the mountains in the area, how they compare with other mountains in the world. Then Wed more about the food and some more culture, traditional clothing and such and Thursday they want to learn about the Straight of Galbirtor and why it was named that. I think that will lead to Spain being our country of the week next week.

Changes in the school year already

Posted in School

Wow this year hasn't started and has had major changes. One we did the IDEA thing this year, well the contract is going to someone else, so it is a similiar program, but a different company. Which means that our order through IDEA wasn't placed.

We are waiting for more info and contact from the new people but while we are wating, I ordered on my own the courses for this year.

I made a few changes and a few things I still want to use we didn't order yet. We will wait and see how thigns are set up with the new company and make sure all teh programs are with in their area of ok to use and ok for the kids ages, not sure about them and the Korean course mainly.

So I changed a few programs, mainly for ordering ease, mainly in area that I was debating between two or three programs to start with. I change the readign progam cause the one I had picked betweent he 3 I was lookinga t I couldn't find anywhere that would do an APO order online, plus now I was able to order everything from only 2 places instead of 5 like I had been planning.

So this is what we went with:

Katelyn:

Scott Foresman Social Studies - Grade 3 - Communities

MCP Plaid Phonics

Phonics PLUS Handbook for Grades 3-6

Spelling Workout

Grammar & Punctuation Grade 3

D’Nealian Handwriting Book 3

Miquon Math
Home School Family Fitness
Health & Safety Curriculum
Art Fun!  And  Craft Fun!

Science for Real Kids Chemistry Pre-Level I

Teaching Tank

Breanna:

Scott Foresman Social Studies - Grade 1 - All Together

MCP Plaid Phonics

Literacy Lifters Book One

Spelling Workout

Grammar & Punctuation Grade 1

D’Nealian Handwriting Book 1

Miquon Math
Home School Family Fitness
Health & Safety Curriculum
Art Fun!  And  Craft Fun!

Teaching Tank

Also we will be doing a US State or Country of the week, along with our weekly Saint  and the odd and regular Holidays in the month.

The girls will be going to CCD with the church and we will be using Faith and Life at home to supplement also.

What Type of Homeschooler Are You?

Mr. Potato Head You have your ideal of how things should look, but youre flexible enough to allow for change. You are not bothered by changing methods, mid-course if necessary. You use an eclectic combination of curriculum sources. Visit my blog: http://www.GuiltFreeHomeschooling.blogspot.com
