Apr. 21, 2009 - Tournament and a puppy!

Hey Everyone!

I hope everybody's doing well. Last Wednesday Mom, Arya, and I left for our Regional Speech and Debate Tournament. We checked in on Wednesday evening and then had an ice cream social(!) which was a lot of fun. On Thursday, my Grandma came up, so that she could watch Arya and I do our speeches, and just to spend some time with us. She stayed the night in our hotel and then left on Friday. On Saturday, annoucements were made to tell us who would be going to Nationals from our Region this year. Several people from our club will be going, although my sister and I did not make it. We are okay with that though, especially because it was our first year, and we still have a couple years of speech and debate ahead of us! I'm already thinking of speeches to do next year   Sunday morning we were driving home, when we got a call. It was from this lady who was going to be selling a puppy to us on Monday. She let us know that the one we wanted was actually available a day early, so we were able to go pick him up almost as soon as we got home!

He is a goldendoodle (part golden retriever, part poodle :-) and we named him Tucker. I really, really, really, would love to post pictures of him...but I can't right now. It takes too much time!!! Sorry, but I will definitely try to in the future. He is so obedient and so much fun! We are really enjoying him.

So that's pretty much it for my "big news"! Please leave me a comment!

Christine Daae

  Happy Easter Everyone!

I hope everyone has a wonderful day, remembering what Christ did for us so many years ago. He is a wonderful Lord!

Just as a praise really quickly, my two younger brothers Caspian and Andrew are being baptized this evening. My Dad is a pastor, so he is going to do it for them. We're all very excited that they have decided to take this important step of faith.

Apr. 6, 2009 - White Chocolate Chips, Craisins, and Pecans...oh, and Rachmaninoff...

Well, the competition went well, though neither my sister or I placed. It was really neat to see-and hear- all the musical pianists, and to get some good ideas about what to play next year. My new all-time favorite song, was a piece played there, which was composed by Rachmaninoff. For those of you who don't know, he is a composer mostly famous for his difficult-to-play classical pieces! The song was beautiful, as well as a flawless performance by the...performer. I enjoyed that piece, as well as many others.

Today my younger brother Caspian and I tried making a new cookie recipe together. I am trying to teach him a little about cooking and baking so this was the perfect opportunity as it is a rainy day, wonderful time for cookies! They're called White Chocolate Chip Craisin Cookies and they turned out really well. It's nice to make something besides chocolate chip cookies every now and then. The original recipe includes pecans, but we left those out. Here it is:

 Ingredients

 3 cups flour

 1 cup sugar

 1 cup brown sugar

 1 tsp baking soda

 1 tsp salt

 1 cup butter

 1 Tblsp vanilla

 2 eggs

 1 cup craisins

1 1/2 cups white chocolate chips

 Directions

 1)  Preheat oven to 350 and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

 2)  Cream butter and sugars until fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla.

 3)  In a seperate bowl combine the flour, baking soda, and salt.

  4) Slowly add the flour mixture to the cream mixture. Stir until almost incorporated. Add the craisins, white chocolate, and if preferred pecans. Mix until everything is just together.

 5)  Drop onto trays by heaping spoonfuls and bake at 350 for 11-15 minutes.

So there it is! Feel free to try them....they're really good If you do, I hope you enjoy!

  In Christ,

 Christine

Apr. 4, 2009 - Baseball and Piano...huh?

Today my two little brothers, Andrew and Prince Caspian(-; had their first baseball games. We found a homeschool sports leauge here, which is non-competitive and does spring baseball and fall soccer. Both the boys did a good job and had a lot of fun. My Dad is coaching Andrew's team, and that went well for him as well. Andrew's age group is around seven years old, so they were really cute to watch! Caspian's age range is 9-13. Caspian was excited to pitch for an inning and was proud to get three outs. (Excuse me if my baseball terminology is off!) Arya, Caspian and I also have a piano competition today. Yikes! Caspian already competed this morning, and I will be playing in about...an hour! I'm just a little nervous... Arya doesn't play until around four this afternoon. I am playing a Sonata by Kuhlau and a modern piece called The Gypsies by Eugenie Rocherolle. I hope all goes well, and I don't have any memory loss or toooo many mistakes:-) In Christ, Christine

Mar. 24, 2009 - Regionals, here we come!!!

 Hey Everyone!

Last weekend, from 7 AM on Thursday morning to 9:30 PM on Saturday evening, we had our final Qualifying to Regionals, speech and debate tournament. Thankfully, this one was hosted by our club, at a church only about 2 minutes from our house, which made it much easier to attend. It was a lot of fun, and the biggest news of all, was that my sister Arya and her debate partner qualified to Regionals, as well as Arya's speech about Starbucks and my humorous interp on the Mad Tea Party! I'm so excited. Regionals will be held next month in VA. Please pray that my sister and I will not get to stressed out about it, and will just have fun preparing our speeches for the next level. Also, that we will be able to get some school done! While speech and debate is educational and a lot of fun, it is also very time consuming, especially with the tournaments. We would both very much appreciate your prayers.

Also, I just wanted to let you know that a girl from our church, a friend of our named Sarah, is undergoing serious back sugery this month. I don't know all the details, but she is having two metal rods put in, and it will take a year for her to fully recover. Please pray for she and her family, as well as the doctors whom operate on her, to have wisdom.

 In Christ,

 Christine

Mar. 11, 2009 -

Well, I thought I should just post something else, so you don't just have to look at that sad post anymore! Let's see. We had another speech and debate tournament last weekend. It was in Northern VA. Arya and her debate partner broke, which means they are going to the Regionals Tournament! I'm very happy for both of them. We just have one more tournament left, which our club will be hosting which means...yay! We won't have to travel anymore! Except for Regionals anyway. Last night for our speech club meeting we held a mock tournament, in the building where we will be having our real tournament. It went pretty well. The parents there got to practice judging, and the younger siblings were able to help out timing speeches. It was fun. I got to watch a lot of good speeches, and then I gave my own, which went pretty well. For those of you who read the first couple chapters of the story on my other blog, I just wanted to let you know that I finally posted the next chapter. Depending on the response, I will post another one soon. I appreciate your comments on that! In Christ, Christine

Feb. 27, 2009 -

Well, so far it's been a pretty sad day. This morning we had to put our wonderful dog to sleep. His name was Taggerung Scout (Tagg for short) and he was a West Highland White Terrier, or a Westie. It was very sudden to all of us. He just started acting weird a couple days ago, very listless and un-energetic. By last night, we were all concerned so Mom made an appointment to take him to the vet at seven this morning. Once there, he was diagnosed with an immune disease, which he would most likely die from very soon in the future, so we had to make the very hard decision to put him down. We are all so very sad right now. We only had him for a little over two years. His third birthday would be in April. I would love to post some pictures of him, but it will have to be later, because right now it's just kind've too hard.

 God bless.

 In Christ,

 Christine

Feb. 22, 2009 -

Well! We have been very busy, and actually I don't have a whole lot of time to post this, but I'll fit as much in as time allows:-)

First of all, last weekend Arya went on a winter retreat in PA with a group from our church. It was tons of fun. There were a couple really good speakers. We got to see lots of snow-well, ok flurries- and we went tubing, played games, didn't sleep much, you know the story! It was my first time ever tubing and I loved it. We would make these big chains connecting our tubes together, and go down the hill all at once. We also had a couple bonfires and got to roast marshmallows. It was a lot of fun. I'm sorry I don't have an pictures, but we just never even thought of taking any, even though I brought my camera!

Secondly, me, Arya, and Mom just got back from our first speech and debate tournament, at eleven o' clock on Saturday night. It was a blast! We left on Thursday at five thirty in the morning..ok so that part wasn't so great;-) On Thursday I gave my Mad Tea Party speech that you have heard so much about, once and on Friday twice. But the final time I was doing it on Friday, I met a boy getting ready to do his right after, so I asked what he speech he was doing. He said "A Mad Tea Party from Alice in Wonderland. What are you doing?" and I said "A Mad Tea Party from Alice in Wonderland!!!" It was crazy. He was doing the exact same chapter from the same book as me. Wow. And he was really, really good. Anyway, neither Arya or I broke into finals, but since it was our first tournament we were kind've expecting that. Hey, how many of you have heard of Brett Harris, one of the authors of Do Hard Things? He was there on Friday judging debates! It was pretty cool. Patrick Henry College, where he goes, was just about twenty five minutes down the road from where the tournament was, so he was able to judge. That was exciting:-)

Hopefully the next two weeks will be pretty calm and we will get plenty of school in. Because we have another tournament in VA in 2 weeks, and than another one here in about a month. They don't exactly leave much time for school, so we need to do some catching up, as you can imagine!

  Christine

Feb. 12, 2009 -

I am feeling so happy right now. Last night, my Dad installed our brand new Dell computer. The monitor screen is a lot bigger than our last one, and the computer has four times as much RAM. Hey, this might even inspire me to post more often!  But don't quote me on that...:-)

My Mom has a follow-up rheumatologist appoinment today. Please just pray that she doesn't wind up in the ER this time! Just that it will go smoothly and she will be able to come home promptly.

Phew, today is Arya's last day of TeenPact, her government course. I am glad it will soon be over! She has had a good time, but I have been very busy taking care of Caspian and Andrew while Mom drives her to and from the state capitol building, while trying to do my school, chores, and having piano and violin lessons. Oh yes, and there was a speech class stuck in there on Tuesday night too! At speech, we went over some of the guidelines for tournament dress and talked about what to expect at a tournament. My first one is next week...I'm so nervous! But I think I am ready to see what they will be like and to get one over with!

I hope you are all doing well. Thank you for your comments!

Feb. 6, 2009 - A Mad Tea Party, Snowmen, and a Government Class, with a few Prayer Requests...

The performance of the Mad Hatter for the speech/drama coach went well. I got a lot of very helpful suggestions. Thankfully, before she got there, to listen to me do it, my Dad and I were waiting in a room with a ping pong table, so we played a game to relax me a little bit because I was so nervous! It ended up being fun.

Thank you for all your prayers for my Mom. She is a doing a lot better, now that she is on antibiotics. In fact she is pretty much back to normal! Please continue praying that the inflammation will completely clear away.

I have another prayer request, for our next door neighbor. She has breast cancer and is having surgery today. Please pray that the doctors will have wisdom, and that she will have a speedy recovery. She has a son that my little brothers enjoy playing with. I don't believe she is a Christian, but my Mom has been talking to her a lot. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will soften her heart towards the Lord.

My little brother Andrew has recovered from his scarlet fever. In fact I think today was his last day on antibiotics. His rash cleared up in the first couple days though, thankfully!

Arya is going to be taking a special class course on government this coming week. She had a lot of homework to do leading up to it, but has just about completed all of it. I hope it goes well for her! She is pretty excited.

I am looking forward to the weekend. We don't have a lot going on. My brothers have basketball practice and tomorrow we are going to someone's house for dinner, but other than that I just get to stay home and relax. And of course there is church on Sunday, and we are having a potluck type thing after that. Ahhh, just to be off of school for a few days! We did have a little bit of snow this week. It was only about an inch, but my brothers managed to scrape a snowman together. It's really funny because the snowman is still out there sitting under the shade of a tree, but all the other snow has melted! It's hilarious to see it there in front of our house with no other snow in sight!

I hope you're all doing well! Thanks again for your prayers.

Jan. 31, 2009 -

Today I am performing my "Mad Tea Party" speech for a professional drama coach, and will be receiving instructive critique from her on how to make it better. Please pray for me, as I am a little nervous!

Yesterday my sister Arya, had a practice debate tournament. It was all day long; she and her partner had four debate rounds. Their debate resoution is for the US to significantly change it's foreign policies towards India, and their specific topic was agriculture. They won two of the rounds and lost two and received pages of notes from the judges. I was very happy for Arya and her partner, Courtney. Real tournaments for debate and speech start in February. Yikes!

Last Saturday my sister and I were invited to go to a Chris Tomlin concert, with some friends. For those of you who don't know, Chris Tomlin is a Christian praise singer. It was a lot of fun, really amazing! He spoke for a while about the website www.onemillioncan.com which college students in Georgia started. Please visit the website to find out more about their causes and how you can help. One challenge they have worked towards is building homes to house African orphans.

On Sunday afternoon, my Dad and I attended a Classical Recital held at our church. It was really amazing. There were violins, piano, flutes, horns, cellos, etc. It was very good. My two favorite pieces were the Fantase Carmen performed by a piano and violin, and the Hungarian Dance No. 5 performed by two violins.

Please pray for my Mom. Last year she had to be admitted to the ICU for a few days, because of some intense chest pain she was having. Up until a couple weeks ago, she hadn't had it any more since then, but it seems to have come back. She's been to a couple doctor's appointments and they have diagnosed it as peracarditis (sp?) and prescribed her some heavy pain relief medicine and a prescription that should clear it away. Basically what the disease means is that the lining of her heart is inflamed. Pray that the medicine will work, and that the doctor's will have wisdom in knowing what to do for her.

Oh this was kind've bizarre. Some of you may remember that I had scarlet fever over the summer. Well, my little brother Andrew got it about a week ago! Like I said, it's pretty much strept throat and a rash, so when Andrew complained of a sore throat and rash Mom took him to the doctor and that's what he was diagnosed with! He has been on an antibiotic for about a week now, and is much better.

I hope you are all doing well. God bless.

    In Christ,

    Christine

Jan. 15, 2009 -

Tuesday night was our first week back at our Impact Speech Club. It went pretty well. We always break into small groups, after sharing devotions and annoucments, so this semester we have new groups, cell groups as they're called. In mine I gave the humorous interpretive I have been working on for a while. It is "A Mad Tea Party" from Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". The only part I get really nervous about in it, is where I have to sing a couple lines from Twinkle Twinkle Little Star...I'm not much of a singer! I have to do it in this deep voice, as I'm pretending to be the Mad Hatter:-) It's kind've fun, but mostly nerve-wracking! I was getting close to that part, and I thought I would just skip over it, but I said to myself "Now, if you can't do it front of these people that you know, how are you ever going to be able to do it for judges that you don't know!!!" So I got up my nerve and did it. It went well too! Now I still have to do it for judges later this season...

Today we have a violin lesson. We have been working on vibrato a lot at our lessons. I think I'm getting the hang of it, but I'm double-jointed which makes it even more difficult! I practice a lot at home though and I'm getting there!

Last night our pastor shared a message about how our culture has gotten to the point where we no longer take the time to discern between good and evil, truth and lies. His main point was that, we are no longer taking action on what we learn. We can't just listen to someone speaking and take it all in and then not try to decide for ourselves what was truth in what they were saying and what was false. We must take that time to figure out what we believe and what we should ignore. We must take action in God's Word.

  In Christ,

  Christine

"Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of Mine and does them I will liken him to a wise man...But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine and does not do them, will be like a foolish man." Matthew 7:24a, 25a

Jan. 9, 2009 -

Ahh, the weekend approaches! We don't have any big plans, mostly just rest and relaxation. Tonight though, a friend of my mom's and me and my sister is coming over. She is a single woman from our church. We love to drink tea with her at her house and tonight she is coming over for dinner, games and half of a movie. That's right, just half. We are going to be watching Elizabeth Gaskall's Cranford, but since it is a long movie, we have to watch it in two nights. So tonight we are watching the first half, and next weekend we will finish it. I'm really excited about spending time with this lady though. Her parents are from Holland. She lived in England for several years and has traveled a lot, so she has a lot of interesting stories. She got us started on "tea time" which is when you have a cup of tea around 3 or 4 in the afternoon. We have also been drinking it every night. My Mom has even started to like it more than coffee! That is, the caffenated kind! It's a lot of fun. I would love to hear about all your plans for the weekend. May God bless you! In Christ, Christine
