• Aug. 18, 2007 - Lazy Saturday
How long has it been since you've slept till 10:00 am?? Well today I got the royal treatment and my wonderful husband quietly snuck the kids out before they got a chance to wake me up and I slept till 10:00!!
That was nice.
On another note, I made my final shopping list 'o things that I need for the new school year. I think I should buy stock in 3 ring binders. Each of my three boys has 4 this year. Other than some poster board I think I'm in good shape. I either had or bought my curriculum at the MassHope convention. I have never been ahead of the game before! False sense of security I'm sure. I always find more stuff I need once we get going.
Currently we are looking for a house. An apartment, if we can't find something before the winter. The house we are in right now is so expensive to heat. One way or the other we are going to move before the winter. We are going to look at a place tomorrow that sounds pretty nice. Nice family neighborhood. One floor, which is good for husband. So we'll see what God has in store for us.
Can't think of much else to write, except that God is good. I am happy and at peace. Now if I could just get my boys on board I'd be all set...

• Aug. 17, 2007 - Who wants cheese on thier burger?
I am so thankful for my husband! He is so kind and generous!
let me back up by saying that last Sunday my hubby, R, bought me a car! Not just any car, we found an incredible deal on a Jaguar (not a brand new one, but it is gorgeous!) he said he wanted to buy it for me. WOW.
So on Tuesday we decided to take a road trip to Thomaston to see my dad. (and also an opportunity to drive the new car!) A 2 1/2 hour trip. We had a very nice visit, we went to the cemetary where my Mom is. While we were there, my cousin Cheryl called and said they were going to come and spend a couple days and they would be up on Wednesday. I had not seen my cousin in about 10 years (they live in New York) We were pretty close as kids. I felt bad that we were going to miss their visit! They would not have time to come to see us since they only had a limited amount of time. We left late and were home by 11:00 PM.
Now, my husband is disabled. He is in constant pain. He has an implanted medication pump in his abdomen. So its not easy for him to take such journeys very often.
I was talking to my Dad on Wednesday, on the phone, and I was feeling really bad because we were missing seeing Cheryl and her family. She has an almost 2 year old, Patrick, whom I have never seen. So I talked to R and he agreed that we would could go up again to see them!!! (and another opportunity to drive the new car!)
We left early in the afternoon and got to spend the day with my Dad, My aunt and Uncle and Cheryl and her family! It was so great, the kind of get togethers that I had been missing out on for so many years! What a blessing.
Little Patrick running around pushing his truck. My Dad-the grillmaster-"who wants cheese on their burger?". My aunt wondering if they had enough food for everyone (we had enough for a small army!). my boys playing trac ball and getting soaked in the water hose, against my wishes. My husband sleeping in the recliner. My uncle watching "finding nemo" with the kids, in his wheelchair. Cheryl's husband, Jason, not feeling well and laying down in their car. And I got to visit with my childhood pal, my cousin, Cheryl.
Thank you so much sweetheart for your love and generosity!

• Aug. 16, 2007 - I've Been Tagged!
Okay, so I've been tagged by 2girlsand2boys. I also was one of those kids in school who never got picked for anything! Actually think I got a "d" in P.E. one year... ah well, here goes...
Da Rules:
Answer the questions accurately and no wimping out!
You must tag 5 other people.
1. What is your favorite bible verse?
Matthew 6:25-30
So I tell you, don't worry about everyday life-whether you have enough food, drink and clothes. Doesn't life consist of more than food and clothing? Look at the birds. They don't need to plant or harvest or put food in barns because your Heavenly Father feeds them. And you are far more valuable to Him than they are. Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? Of course not.
And why worry about your clothes? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. they don't work or make thier clothing. Yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and gone tomorrow, won't he more surely care for you? You have so little faith.
2. What Season of the year is your favorite? Why?
Fall without a doubt!
I love the crispness in the air, the foliage, the first smells of fireplaces and woodburning stoves, The feel of my snugly sweatshirt keeping me warm.
3. Do you think homeschooling will continue to grow?
Yes! I believe that there is movement that God is doing in the hearts of his people to prepare them for the trials to come. This includes placing homeschooling as an important priority to Christian parents.
4. List 4 people that have infuenced your life.
Wow what a great question! #1 My parents. #2 Jesus. #3 My children. #4 My husband. Not necessarily in that order.
5. What is your favorite non-biblical quote?
Hmmm... I would have to quote my dad, although I am sure he is not the originator of this saying, "K.I.S.S.-Keep it simple stupid!"
6. Silk, Satin, or Cotton?
Well, are we talking about undergarments or what here?!? I would have to say, in any situation, definately cotton!
7. If you like chocolate, what is your favorite?
I like a really high quality milk chocolate. I kind of was spoiled in that regard when I was in Germany. They have the best!!
8. If you could have dinner with 5 people, who would it be?
Jesus, My Father, My Mother, and My grandparents Murray, All of them besides my dad are in heaven and I miss them soooooo much!
9. Who is you favorite author?
Dean Kuntz is my favorite writer and God is my favorite author of all things. I am in awe of his creation each and every day.
10. Who will you tag?
well, since I only know one person on this forum I will pick her, 2girlsand2boys. The others I will pick at random and update this question later...

• Aug. 15, 2007 - Prayer for upcoming school year
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you so much for the intitution known as family.
I Thank you so much for the family you have given me and all of the opportunities you have given me, as a mother.
Please help me to view my husband and children as gifts from you and treat them as such.
Please guide me with your wisdom in planning for the upcoming school year. Help me to be an example of your kindness and goodness and patience and graciousness.
I pray for all of the homeschooling mothers who like me are not perfect and to realize that thats okay.
I pray for your help in areas that I am not familiar with. Guide me to resources and others that will help.
Please give me the discipline that is required to stay on track and to remain faithful to you and your word.
I thank you most of all for your Son,Our Saviour, who makes it possible to be reconciled to you.
Let me always remember the incredible sacrifice that was made on my behalf, especially when things are rough and I start to complain.
Thank you for fellowship and support of other homeschool families and for opportunities to share and support others as well.
In Jesus' sweet name, Amen |

• Aug. 15, 2007 - Me and my 3 boys
• Aug. 15, 2007 - First blog
Well today I join the ranks as a "blogger". How exciting! I wonder if I will be able to keep up and current with it... How many "diaries" have I bought and either given away or found years later- only 2-3 pages actually written on?
What I hope to get from this is a journal for my children and myself, to record our memories, our triumphs and tribulations, and to be part of a community of like-minded moms, homeschoolers, and to be supported and to support.
I am not a very organized person, but I always have the best intentions. How many other moms out there llike me? probably as many as are well organized. Which is a comfort... I do respect, even envy those who are well organized. well, one day at a time, as I often say.
This year we are taking a new approach to school. Last year was our first year, which I chalk up to a learning experience. I have three boys, I who is ten and going into 5th grade, K who is 9 and going into 3rd grade and N who is 7 and going into 2nd grade. Last year they all did thier own seperate school work, which was not fun or efficient for anyone! So this year we are doing classes together exept for math and english of course.
I am looking forward to starting the school year, unlike my boys who are very much enjoying the Maine summer and who wish it could go on forever!!
I went to my first homeschool convention which was "totally awesome"! I purchased "Mystery of History" Vol. 1 and Christian kids explore biology. Along with some other great titles from the "virtue" store-can't remember the name of it, sorry! I am so excited that this year will be so much less stress. No one else's deadlines and lesson plans to have to go by. YEAH!!
I have so much more to say but will end now.
Thank you to PD who sent me an email with a link to her blog which inspired this blog. |
