Homeschooling the heart

I need your help, please.....

Do any of my blogging friends know of some great resources for young kids (preschool/1st grade) to memorize scripture?  I'm looking for music, books anything......that will help it to stick.  Thanks in advance.

Focus on the Family "20 Bible Verses Every Child Should Know" it comes with a book that has stories that explain the verse and then a CD to sing them to. My son loved them. Here is a link to the Focus on the Family page. You might find it cheaper else where. I think I got ours at the Family Christian Book Store.

I would write out the bible verse and hang it on our cabinets and we would read the story and listen to the song over and over until he got it.
Hope that helps.

Also, we use the paper crafts books from Rod and Staff...they each have a scripture.

The thing that has helped the most is Doorposts' book, "For Instruction in Righteousness," we pray with each kiddo about things we think they are struggling with and then go through the book and pick out some memory verses. Then, through the week, we have them use that for copywork and on Friday, they use their best handwriting to write the verse on "fancy" paper. I've learned many verses this way, too!

HTH!

YES - we were just listening to this today. FUN praise / worship type songs... literal and with the scripture reference in the song. It comes with a "card" for each scripture... and not irritating at all for the parents to have to listen to either!!m - in fact, I have learned some more scripture without trying... yeah!

Seeds of Courage (and they have another volume as well) - we got it at CBD

steve green produces "hide it in your heart" which is scripture set to music - my children love it and are learning well. It does not include references, tho, in most cases. Often he introduces the song and tells the reference, tho.

We'll be using the abeka verses this year - a verse for each letter of the alphabet. They have cards that go along with the verses.

I hope you find something that works for you!!

My DD used AWANA bible verses and it was wonderful and easy since she was already learning that on Weds. Nights at church I just used that one since she needed to memorize it anyway.
She was a HoneyBee last year and this year she will be a Cubbie.

The other ladies comments were very good suggestions as well.
