Apr. 16, 2008 - I Am So Blessed!
As I wrote the title to this entry, I think how true it really is. Last Thursday was our homeschool meeting. We met at the park and the kids played while the moms talked. A lady that joined our group in March brought several boxes of books to give away. There were several unit studies so I grabbed those right away. My children are not big fans of school, to say the least. At times it is like pulling teeth to get schoolwork completed. So, yesterday I brought in the box of schoolbooks and let each child select a book they would like to study from. Harley selected a unit study on computers. Hank selected a unit study on The Wild West. There was also a Bible Study. We sat down yesterday morning and began the Bible Study, all four children and I. It went very well. In fact, I was shocked at how much the little ones already knew. Harley and Hank began their unit studies. Today, we sat down and had our Bible Study, which again went awesome! Who knew we had it in us. We've tried this before, but never with this much success. Harley and I spent time going over the time line of when computers were invented. I was shocked at how interested she actually was. I gave her an assignment to write the different hardware devices. Once again, I was impressed. Hank, who is my little cowboy, enjoyed learning about the Louisiana Purchase. I gave him a writing assignment and he did a good job. He has a nice handwriting. They are taking a break, but are planning on doing Math as soon as Mom comes down and makes them.LOL! School is sometimes hard for us, because we have to be so quiet, which is very hard for us loudmouths! My hubby works night shift, so he's trying to sleep. Notice the word "trying". You don't want to wake Daddy up! That's for sure!!
That's why I like it when it's warm enough to send the kiddos outside when their volumes are way up. My mil and sil live right next door and it's nice to be able to send the kids across the pasture to their house. I am so blessed that they are not only willing to watch the kids, but they love watching them. It truly is a blessing for a momma who hasn't been feeling like her normally spunky self. Anyway, I won't keep you in suspense any longer.... Last night, was the finals of Shoals Star IV. It was a packed house (actually it's not a house, it's a Christian Coffee Shop.) Each contestant had to do three songs. We let Harley choose her own songs, and she decided to wear a different outfit for each song. I will admit that I tried to discourage this, but decided this was her contest and she needed to do it her way, that way she couldn't blame me if she didn't win.LOL! She was the only contestant to change clothes. The first song she sang was 9 to 5. She wore a cute little black business looking outfit, it's hard to find a business suit for a 12 yr old who wears a size 8 and 10 in little girls. LOL! She did look adorable though. She put her hair up in a bun and carried a brief case and cell phone. She started the song acting like she was talking on the phone and when the music started she threw them down. At one point during the song, she took her hair down. The judges loved it! I thought it was a little cheesy, but keep in my mind I'm the queen of cheesy!LOL! She rocked the song! I was so very proud of her! Her next song, was a new one by Taylor Swift "Picture to Burn". She got the cd last Wednesday, but didn't decide to sing it until Sunday. She did a really good job on it and you would have never guessed she learned it in two days! The judges loved it! She had a real spunky attitude, note I said real!! She changed into her little denim cowgirl outfit with leather fringe and sang, yodelled, and clogged to "Cowboy's Sweetheart". One judge said she saved the best for last. She did a really good job. We were so very proud of her, but we always are. She is a performer. She can't just stand and sing, she has to be putting on a show. It truly is a gift from God!! So the suspense was killing us! I had bitten off all my nails. Finally, they had the results. The lady who had been in first place the last two weeks finished in third. This was very surprising to me. I thought her and Harley would be first and second like they had for the previous two weeks. But you never know. They told that it was very close with only .25 points between 1st and 2nd place. Harley sat very quiet by her grandmother. I watched her as they announced the 2nd place winner, Harley looked at me and quietly said, "I won!" We were almost in shock, then he announced that the Shoals Star IV winner was Harley Morris. She is the youngest to ever make it in the top 3, so for her to win it is really something. The very first Shoals Star winner was 13. All have been women or girls. She won $200 and a recording session to make a cd!! That truly is a blessing!!! You never know about contests, though. I remind Harley that it is just somebody's opinion. She normally does really well, but last Sat. at the Chicken and Egg Fest. there was 24 contestants, and she didn't place in the top 3. I thought she should have, but maybe I'm a tad partial.LOL! The win last night was very good for her. It helped rebuild her confidence. It's probably a good thing she doesn't win every time, that way it keeps her humble. Confident yet humble, that's the way it should be.

Totally awesome about Harley, we are so proud of her. I could actually picture her in that little business suit with the briefcase and cell phone. We so wish we could of seen her in action.

Love you,

I have had a super easy pregnancy so far, I did with my first too, I have been very blessed!
How have you been doing? Are you showing yet? I was showing at 8 weeks with this one, lol. I am always curious about other Mamas experiences :)
Hubby and I picked out a name for the baby, but we are keeping it a secret till she is born;) My mother is dying to find out, lol. She has guessed every girls name she could think of, and even tried to trick my sister into thinking I had told her the name, she thinks I told my sister and not her, lol.
Enjoy your weekend! I hope it is a very blessed one.

Apr. 18, 2008 - Good morning!
We don't feed our cows any grain..they are completely grass fed. So, we don't feed them daily like you would....but we also do rotational grazing, so we are out there moving most every day during the growing season.
I guess I outgrew any problem with eating what we raised as a child...we had a dairy farm..and our meat came from our cows. Those we did have close contact with. :)
I knew about Sis Zelda's son...how very, very sad. How is she doing? Such a sweet lady... :(
How's that little pooch coming along? And your morning sickness? Did the Altoids help at all??
We're loving this weather...wish it could stay like this all year long!!! Planning to get our first garden in this weekend. That will be so nice to have our own produce, right outside the kitchen window.
Have a great day!!!
Love,
Laurie

Apr. 22, 2008 - Hey!
Yeah, they say that leaves of three, leave them be. But I did not see any. And I would of gone NOWHERE near that flower bed if I had seen any. I think it was in the vines that I was pulling. But I will definitely be more careful next time. But it kind of not makes me want to walk outside for fear of getting some. lol!
Thank you so much for letting Harley come spend Sunday with us!! I had such a good time with her. Her singing gets better each time I hear her.
Luv ya,
Sarah

That reminds me of those ladies you don't notice are pregnant until they turn around, lol.
Lol, well after 4 babies, you deserve some newer clothes! My Mom bought me 10 used (but like new) long skirts with stretch waistband, but other than that and the 2 new maternity shirts hubby got me, I am wearing the clothes I bough with my first PG. A friend I used to work with had her baby 7 months before my baby was born and she SWEARS she will NEVER have another baby, so she gave me all of her maternity clothes and baby clothes. It was a huge blessing for me :)
What sweet names! I love the Ha theme.:)
I hope you have a lovely week, and I hope to talk again soon.
