wow yesterday just wow
it was so hectic, who would have thought that a mere visit to the doctor would take 4 hours and completely exhaust me? well i guess when you take a 6 year old and a 3 year old along for the 12 year olds checkup (which btw we NEVER take the children to the doctor but we had to have a doctors signature on a health history form for m to attend the savannah trip). he still didnt sign the form, saying that since she had gotten dizzy while exercising that she would have to see a cardiologist before he would sign the paper. oh and she would have to get caught up on her vaccinations. ewwww.
lets just say, yesterday was a learning experience for everyone. and we get to relive it on friday when i take all 3 to the cardiologist. i really really need to find someone local to watch the younger ones in times like these, someone who will take trade rather than cash.
what does this have to do with homeschool you may be asking? im not sure right now because i am so tired but i am sure there is some correlation |

the last few days
have been pretty busy, lots of doctors appointments, we have another one tomorrow. for m actually, which is funny because i never take my children to the doctor but for m to be able to go to savannah she has to pass a physical. also she has decided to reregister for scouts next year.
lately she has been working on crocheting and hemp knotwork, hopefully we can sell some on amitys to get the money for her trip to savannah.
lyl is teaching herself how to tell time (she told me just last night that it was only 8 more minutes until midnight and i nearly fell out of my chair). she continues to amaze me with what and how she teaches herself. it just goes to show that unschooling really does work. now m has to have a bit of structure, but then she had been in preschool - lyl was never put into preschool so she doesnt even know about sitting in a desk, raising of hands to be allowed to pee, etc.
well its story time for the girls, have a nice evening! |

more on the same day as the biscuit
m is making more barefoot sandals. shes brilliant (have i said that before?
also lyl taught herself how to spell "welcome". shes getting really really good at spelling and reading, all by herself. as you can see she is a whole language learning (some people call it "sight reading") meaning phonics confuses the hell out of her. some good books that she loves right now
i hope that this blog is helping someone out there get a better understanding of unschooling :)

its about that time!
i love being barefoot, so much i am a member of the barefooters club. of course i cant go barefoot all the time like my friends, i wish i could - one day i will!
my oldest and i were talking about going barefoot but needing something to make it look like i have shoes on - so i showed her the barefooters site and it mentioned barefoot sandals. she whipped me up a pair in about 20 minutes with no pattern and only having seen a picture of a pair.
beware my feet :D

it runs in the family
the children wanted their hair cut and dyed. so we thought "why not? its not like they have to answer to anyone about it" so here are the younger 2 - m will be home later and i am *sure* she will want her hair dyed as well
they are getting so big. this weekend mare went to see her biodonor in prison. i am waiting for her to get home and tell me what all happened. lyl continues to teach herself and sarah how to read. its amazing to watch how they can teach themselves. i feel so guilty for all the pressure i put on mare when she was 5 to *make* her learn to read. i mean i literally pushed and pushed her every single day. sad really.
yesterday the girls helped with burning all the old bushes, the broke them up into smaller twigs and then after the fire went out we spread the ashes for compost. then andy and i explained about compost and saving/killing the earth. i use those terms a lot around the house lol. "dont keep the water on while brushing you will kill the earth" "turn off the tv/light when you leave that room so you dont kill the earth". i cant wait for the WVO conversion to start and also for the citizanresolar. i am most excited about teaching the children about renewable resources and recycling. i wish georgia had a good recycling program, but hey at least we compost!
to change the subject we had bought 3 robo dwarf hamsters and the children were having a good time learning all about them. at least until one decided to beat the crap out of another one and she was so hurt she died. so now we are going over death and what that means. which is pretty interesting, because we are talking about what christians believe, what jews believe, what atheists believe, buddhists, hindi, etc.
gotta run, lunch time.

today i have a bee for a daughter
Apr. 11, 2008
ah the first of many entires (maybe)
do i start out talking about myself? my children? my husband? ~ all of us were/are homeschooled~
i guess i should just go down the line and give some information about us all.
me - branwyn (aka madhouse mauly mefisto) for obvious reasons - (bipolar, BPD, OCD, eating disorders, social anxiety, PTSD, etc, etc ad nauseum). 32 (almost 33) year old mother to 3 daughters. one of which is from my first marriage which ended because of drug addiction (mine and his - i am 10 years and 10 months clean). he is now is prison and i often have to answer to not only myself and my doubts when raising her, but my parents (who help raise her as their own because i was a drug addict, active, until my oldest was 15 months old) and my exinlaws (who feel a huge sense of responsibility because shes is their only grandchilde and her father, their son, is in prison for murder.).
my other 2 children (daughters as well) are from my 2nd (and hopefully last) marriage to a man who is,lets face it, a saint. he can deal with me so that says a lot :) he was raised in Transcendental_Meditation centers all over the world and is the most laid back person i have ever met (probably how he can deal with me).
we are radical unschoolers, which is a little hard for some people to understand that my kids dont sit around and play mario brothers - all day, every day. but hopefully thru this blog radical unschooling will become a bit easier to understand and see how you can easily transition your family (if you like :) )
please, thank you, see ya later 'gator
PS i do not use capital letters (often), apostrophes, i use run on sentences and over use commas and parentheses. this irritates some, but its who i am. i know how to use proper englsh and grammar but at most times to go against the "rules" and do what i like. we were told by william faulkners niece in law that the most memorable and actually most famous of writers do not go by any rules (this was a 7th grade english teacher that said this to a our class...hmmmmmi wonder what the school system would do if they knew that she was so open with us?).
PPS i am on a lot of medication so i often will write sentences that might not make any sense, i will attempt to reread the posts a few times before posting to make sure that my medicated brain hasnt totally screwed with something. but if you do not understand a concept i have spoken of, please dont hesitate to ask, nicely, for more information. oh and i cuss like a chef (who are known to cuss worse than sailors). |
