WELCOME TO PATCHWORK COTTAGE
I will be leaving this post at the top for awhile, so be sure to scroll down to check for more recent posts
Why Patchwork Cottage
When I left "the world" to come home in 2001 and be the mother of my children, it was a HUGE leap of faith. I'm sure that many thought I was being foolish. I believed then, and still do that my calling is to be a Keeper-at-Home, (Titus 2:3-5).
In 2003, I was inspired to begin doing patchwork quilts the way my grandmother had, as a means of supporting my family. It took me a long time to find the faith and courage to let the inspiration become a reality. This summer, I've sold 4 quilts that I made "on spec." and I have had a very promising custom order (which I hope to share pictures of with you soon).
The word PATCH means to make of fragments or to produce crudely or hurriedly. That describes my quilts. They are no fuss, no muss. Okay, maybe that is not entirely true, but it is the concept behind them.
The work PATCHWORK means something made of pieces of different materials or needlework, as a quilt, made with odd patches of cloth. That is definitely my quilts. But it is also our approach to homeschooling. I think from now on instead of saying we do a "hodge podge", I'm going to say we do a "patchwork" approach to choosing our curriculum. It sounds so much more . . . well, us.
A QUILT is defined as a badded bed coverlet, and a COTTAGE as a small house or a house used for vacations (and this is certainly what we strive toward attaining in our home, a restful, get away atmosphere). INDUSTRY is an earnest, steady effort or any branch of productive manufacturing enterprise. That is definitely what I do, when making quilts. I have my own little Cottage Industry.
Each of these words is exactly definitive of Patchwork Cottage and what we do.
So, while I will still continue to share support and encouragement with those of you single moms who are homeschooling and striving to be keepers at home, I will also be sharing some of my other efforts with you as well.
As Always,
May the Lord Bless you richly,
MaggieRaye

Aug. 5, 2008 - To lazy to login

It's me, Connie, a.k.a. 4evrhischild, just to lazy to take the time to log in. I love the new look. Wish I had time to blog, but I'm a working mom, now, at least for the time being. It's been great, the kids go with me some, stay with gramma or nana some whatever they choose. My house isn't liking it though, very behind right now. Shaina's reading seems to be improving ~ I hope. Anyway, just wanted to let you know the new look is awesome.

I tried Homeschool Foundation. They said I don't meet the guidelines but not sure why. I asked and they didn't tell me. Just said I wasn't in the guidelines. BUT, I applied to www.modestneeds.org and I am pre-approved. Now I'm waiting for the email to scan documents and send them in.

Sep. 4, 2008 - quirks meme

You've been tagged!
I was tagged for this meme by Little Cottage School on the Prairie. The rules are stated below:
1. Link the person who tagged you.
2. Mention the rules on your blog.
3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks you possess.
4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking them.
5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger’s blogs letting them know they’ve been tagged.
My six quirks:
1. My first quirk is that I am very particular about the way my sheets and blankets are kept on my bed. They have to be straight and covering the bed just right. If they are askew or upside down or inside out, I just can't sleep. I insist that my hubby and I fix the bedding so it is just right every night. Mind you I don't make my bed every day. I suppose making the bed might fix the bedding issue at night, but our mornings are so crazy that it seems impossible to find the time to make the bed. I guess that for now we make the bed before we go to bed. Yes, I agree that it is silly!
2. Another quirk of mine is that I have to have coffee every morning. It has gotten to the point that I cannot skip a morning because I get a headache. That being said, I am very picky about my coffee. I like it strong. I prefer particular brands like Peet's or Starbucks. These days, though, we are a little more budget minded so I also like Trader Joe's Colombian and French Roast coffee.
3. I am a choco-holic! There is no question about it. Not a day goes by that I miss out on eating some divine chocolate. I love super dark chocolate, and it is even better with peanut butter. Mmm..I am imagining taking a bite right now! I gave chocolate up for Lent this year, and I was so miserable. Boy did I pray during those 40 days!
4. I am a recovering perfectionist. It's not worth doing something if you are not going to do it right, and my way is the best way to do it. I am desperately trying to let go of this idea, but even when I am refraining from taking over to do something the "right" way, I am biting my tongue and thinking about how I really do know the answers. Alas, I am trying to find the perfect way to recover from my perfectionism...
5. I need a schedule. I don't mean that it is nice to have a schedule or that it helps me stay on target. I mean that I am completely lost and out of sorts without a schedule. Mind you that the schedule is flexible when the need arises, but things have to happen at roughly the same time every day. My inner clock knows when it is time to eat, get dressed, nap, and the like. I fall apart when I do not follow my schedule, and my kids do, too.
6. I am not the most diligent housekeeper, but I insist on having the kitchen clean. I mean as clean as I can get it with two small children, a dog, and a husband in the house! I want the counters clean and the table washed. Sweeping is a must. What really drives me nuts is finding remnants of food left in the sink waiting to go down the garbage disposal. Why is it waiting anyway?
There, now you know a lot more useless information about me.
Next I need to tag six people to follow suit and post about their quirks.
1. Carolyn Morrison
2. Candy Cook
3. Jules
4. Victoria
5. Shannon

Dec. 24, 2008 - love it

I love your idea. I wonder if there is a way to patch together memories of homeschooling to form a quilt to look back on. Any ideas on how to do this. I like your idea of patchwork quilt homeschooling, and I would like to incorporate it into a visual memory work (by the way, I have never done a quilt before, so this would be a challenge for me). Please come visit for some apple cider and tell me what you think.

The random blog button brought me to your blog and I am so glad. I am not a single mom, but because my husband has been ill, I have struggled with the need to go to work. Yet God has blessed us so much these past few months, making it possible for me to be home and care for my family. I know I am where God wants me, but I'm sure the world doesn't understand. Your blog is very encouraging.
