Update on Prayer Request

Posted in Single Moms as Keepers at Home

I know it's been less than a week since I posted it, but I wanted to give you an update.  I'm praying that the Lord will help me learn contentment right where He has me at this moment.  We are doing okay financially, and I've got a full time volunteer position for our state homeschool group.  This meets my welfare "work" requirements.

My biggest "thing" right now is that I still feel like we need to live somewhere else - but there is hope - a small spot of light at the end of the tunnel on this front also.  So for those who've been praying - Thank you!

Blessings, MaggieRaye

I know it's been awhile.  Things have been an unusual struggle lately.

So here' s my prayer request - I'm feeling a desperate need to find gainful employment that can be done from home.

I am a decent typist and considered doing Medical Transcription - but just learned that there is a lot more involved than I originally thought - like two years worth of schooling.

This brings me back to something I've toyed with off and on for a long time - taking two classes and the PRAXIS exams to become a state certified teacher, and then doing year end assessments for homeschooling families.

I was going to family child care, but can't find any place to rent in our area where landlords are willing to allow this that is really appropriate for this type of business.

Fortunately, my friend Janet (link to her blog in sidebar) is going to be working on my official quilt website this week -- so that will be coming soon!  I have 20 quilts ready to go on it.

If you are praying or will pray with us that the Lord would provide clearly, without confusion or struggle, I would sincerely appreciate it if you'd leave a comment or send an email.

If you have encouragement to share about how you are managing to stay at home and homeschool as a single parent, I'd appreciate that as well.

Blessings, MaggieRaye

May. 1, 2009 - Praying

Posted by Anonymous

I'm a single Mom who homeschools and does as much as I can to be a Mom at home, but I do have a full-time job with very flexible hours and at which my homeschooled daughter is welcome to accompany me any time. It took nearly 6 years of prayer, a refocus of my career from an area I loved, to get to that though!

Northwest[ern] College here in Ohio has medical transcription classes online and does offer financial aid. Maybe you could qualify for that? My niece is a certified/degreed teacher and edits school textbooks online at home while home with her 1 year old. I'm not sure who you have to know to that gig, but it's pretty sweet! I don't recall if you live by family [we moved to a different state so that my Mom is in our neighborhood to help "supervise" my 13 year old who is in homeschool] Maybe that's just not an option for you. What about keeping a child at night for a night-shift parent? Or one elderly person for day or night care? [Maybe you don't have space...] Call center at home job?

I'll keep praying!
