Should I Be Irritated?

Posted in Just Ramblin

I heard it again the other day,

"I think there needs to be more regulation of homeschooling, more accountability."  And folks, it's Christians I hear saying this, not the world.

I just want to scream!

The last thing homeschooling needs is more regulation, Christian parents are fighting to keep their freedom to train up their children, as the Lord leads them.  Some do a better job than others, but isn't the same true of government and private schools?  Who is holding them accountable for the children that fall through the cracks -- and children do fall through the cracks.

Each child is unique, Not all of them are brilliant.  Some are just average, some struggle.  Some parents are great teachers -- but some aren't.  But should we be held accountable by the government?  Who do our children belong to anyway?

God is sovereign, at least that is what I keep hearing, so why can't we trust Him to hold the parents accountable for the training of His children?  He's not surprised by the ones that aren't doing a great job, anymore than He's surprised by the ones who are doing a great job.

Our job is to do our best where we are at that moment, right?

I feel like Anne (from Anne of Green Gables)  If you only knew the things I want to say, and don't (see my previous post about being a silent witness).  It's so hard to be a silent witness when fellow Christians are saying such worldly things.

Blessings, MaggieRaye

New regulations doesn't happen overnight. I wouldn't let it get you down. Sadly, "18 Kids and Counting" is not doing homeschool any favors. Plus homeschooling is much more common now and lives side-by-side with very heavily regulated, test-driven public schooling. Just take a deep breath, pray and go on with what works for your family! I would imagine if you do take any government benefits [and you are exactly who those programs were made for--Mothers raising their kids the right way!!] that caseworkers will be skeptical of homeschooling. Just remember there are other moms out their who support you and pray for you.
Did you consider--"Gleaning the Harvest" like Lizzie did?
