My Very First Quilt

Posted in Gallery of Past Quilts

I'm so excited!  I can't believe I actually have a picture of it now.  My very first quilt.  The funniest thing is how time changes things.  I know this is THE first quilt I made.  I remember some of the fabric patterns.  I remember thinking it was the ugliest thing and I didn't know how my grandmother could possibly have expected me to give it away as a Christmas gift or how the receiver could possibly feel glad to receive it.

But time has changed a lot of things.  It isn't that bad -- I still HATE polyester and won't work with it.  But for a first quilt...  And the fact that the receiver still had it 23 years later -- well, that says a lot too.  So, here it is:

My First Quilt

So, what do you think?

It looks nice! My bf has a quilt made of all "double knit polyester," backed with flannel and "tie quilted" with 70-s era red polyester yarn. It was made from the scraps of her big sister, Mom and grandma's home sewen polyester pants suits back in the day! It's the warmest thing on Earth and she always throws it in the car "just in case" when traveling in the winter! So, while the fabric on top doesn't feel very nice, it could really be a life saver. After all isn't sewing a "Practical Art?" lol....the newer quilts you have shown looks soft and cuddly!! :)

Found you thru Dusty Frame.
My grandmother was our family seamstress....I am 60 years old) When she passed away we found bags and bags and bags of material left over from things she had sewn for us. We gave it all to my aunt. As a surprise she made quilts for each of the 4 grandchildren. I cherish it to this day.....some 40 years later and I can still remember what was made from many of the different material. God Bless, Pam, South Bend
