Faithful’s Crown
Once upon a Tall Tale, there dwelt two young ladies in a large and prosperous kingdom. Growing up as best friends, they loved to lay on the riverbank and tell their deepest secrets and recent heartaches. As they aged, they became rather interested in finding the perfect husband, and often dreamed of what their knights in shining armor would be like. The one girl, named Boisterous, grew weary of the natural, pure life she lived, and slowly became accustomed to flirting and allowing her dress standard to diminish; things which were disallowed before she became an adult and the maker of her own decisions. But the other, named Faithful, took pleasure in the simple, righteous life she lived and did not disperse herself inappropriately among desperate men. She remained modest. Wholesome in all aspects of life, she prayed and waited patiently for God to send her the perfect knight.
Because of their separating differences in their love of pastimes and tastes of companionship, Boisterous and Faithful’s relationship gradually divided. They rarely spoke or spent time together. Boisterous wasted days on elaborate parties. Spending time with vain women and shallow men, her life became like the chaff which the wind drives away. (Psalms 1:4) On the other hand, Faithful resorted to working at home with her Mother, assisting her younger siblings in their studies, nursing the elderly, and most importantly, growing in grace through her Savior, Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 3:18) After a few years had passed without Boisterous and Faithful seeing one another, Boisterous had found a man (you could hardly call him one) whom was idle, proud, and flippant. She imagined he could not live without her, although in truth he barely tolerated her. Faithful still had not found her knight, but she did not mind. Unaware all the while a God-fearing, respectful, honorable and rich knight secretly watched her to see if she could possibly be the wife for him.
One sunshiny day, Faithful strode through the village marketplace to purchase fruit for her Mother, oblivious that a tall, dark, handsome and chivalrous knight followed close by. Meanwhile, interrupted by a loud, nasally voice, Faithful whirled about to see Boisterous dashing among the many peasants.
“Faithful!” Arrayed in purple and scarlet color, and decked with artificial gold, precious stones, and pearls, (Revelation 17:4) came Boisterous, dragging a short, thin man. The look on his face seemed to apologize for his very existence.
“Meet my husband, Al!” Boisterous guffawed.
“Hello, Al. How are you, Boisterous?” Faithful greeted politely and quietly. Boisterous simply cachinnated. Faithful could see and smell that she was drunk.
“Could we speak privately?” Faithful requested in Boisterous’ ear.
“Do you remember when we were children and how we would lie on the riverbank and hope for our knights in shining armor?” Faithful asked calmly. Boisterous nodded, her expression sobering. “Well, Al isn’t in shimmering armor . . .” Faithful continued. “He’s in aluminum foil. He’s a fraud!”
Boisterous staggered backward. “I don’t believe it!” she slurred.
“Cannot you see it?” they both looked in Al’s direction. Faithful clearly seen a wicked, sneering man decked in flimsy foil.
“He’s not in aluminum foil!” laughed Boisterous, for her blinded eyes only seen sturdy, steel armor.
“If he’s so bad, why don’t you have a knight in shining armor? Oh, wait, he’s standing beside you! The invisible Mister Unknown! You should come with me. My life revolves around . . .” But Boisterous could not say one more word, for her “knight in shining armor”, Al, or “loser in aluminum foil”, rather, dragged her off.
“You,” Faithful finished Boisterous’ sentence, miserably watching her, “your life revolves around yourself.” As Al and Boisterous stumbled away, Faithful chocked back a sob, “She has drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. (Revelation 18:3) But Jesus Christ was a faithful witness.” (Revelation 1:5) Dispirited and saddened, Faithful prayed for God to give her strength to endure the waiting of her knight. She began to return home, when a deep, rich voice called out her name: “Faithful,” A tall shadow fell over her and as she lifted her face, all heartsickness evaporated. A strong, handsome man clad in sparkling, golden armor stood in front of her, he addressed himself and told her how he had been watching her faithfulness to her Heavenly Father, and her peaceful way of life, and he wished to speak with her father. Everlasting joy bubbled in Faithful’s soul and she obtained gladness. Sorrow and sighing fled away, (Isaiah 35:10) for He was faithful who promised. (Hebrews 10:23) The morals of the story: don’t fall for losers in aluminum foil. Be faithful unto death, (Revelation 2:10) delight in the Lord, (Psalms 37:4) and He will give you all the desires of your heart (Psalms 37:4) and a crown of life. (Revelation 2:10)
What do you think? Crazy? Good analogy? Too exaggerating? It was very fun to write, and it all came from a homeschoolblogger's (I don't remember who. sorry!) avatar that said "my knight in shining armor turned out to be a loser in aluminum foil". I'm sorry whoever-had-that-avatar got their heart broke, but thank's for the inspiration! =D Hope you enjoyed. |
