We've had a great start to our homeschool year. I signed J up for Spanish and Science classes through our local school district. This has given me the freedom to focus on Bible, Reading, Writing, Math and Social Studies. So far this month... J and I finished reading the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. We took turns reading. I am so proud of him reading C.S. Lewis at age 6! We also started an "Author's Club" with some local homeschool families. The kids bring their writing and share with the rest of the group. This Thursday we will be hosting! I feel so blessed to have families on this journey with me. Programs like the school district classes and Awana are also extremely helpful. I am very excited about this year! A has also done some school work this month. In the picture she is working on her handwriting. Her fine motor skills amaze me! I love all my kids and feel so privileged to teach them. I am also so thankful for my amazing husband that works so hard so I can stay at home with our children! God has blessed me with an awesome family!

Creative Writing
My son had so much fun with our school time today. He said it was the best. Instead of using my workbooks, I let him write his own story. We were able to talk about handwriting, capitalizing letters, punctuation, verbs, etc. We will continue to use creative writing as a tool for teaching spelling, grammar and handwriting. My son loves it!

A weaned child
I sat in the nursery, rocking little L. After nursing her, I tried to hug and hold her. She was tiered, wiggling and fussing. The Lord reminded me of Psalm 131. "My heart is not proud, O Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me.
But I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me. O Israel, put your hope in the LORD both now and forevermore." I realized at that moment, my soul was restless like my daughter. I have been seeking things from God, rather than resting in his arms. Like my nursing daughter, wanting milk and comfort, I want certain comforts as well. My prayer is that my soul will be content to rest in my Father's arms, like a weaned child, enjoying His presence in peace.

Mommy Memory
Awana is over for the year. I am so thankful for this program that provides a fun environment to memorize scripture! My kids love it! However, I realized that I focus on my kid's verses and not my own memorization. I was convicted during my Beth Moore study by Psalm 63. Now with my life as a mom, I often look to God to guide me through my difficulties or circumstances. I don't sit and focus on His glory and holiness the way I did as a single lady. The words have been very helpful to remind me to get alone with the Lord and seek His face, not for my own gain, but out of love. I have decided to memorize the psalm. Anyone want to join me...?
"O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;my soul thirsts for you;my flesh faints for you,as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. Because your steadfast love is better than life,my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live;in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips, when I remember you upon my bed,and meditate on you in the watches of the night; for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. But those who seek to destroy my life shall go down into the depths of the earth; they shall be given over to the power of the sword;they shall be a portion for jackals. But the king shall rejoice in God; all who swear by him shall exult, for the mouths of liars will be stopped."

Homeschool with 3 kids
I just love homeschooling with all my kids! Little L is 8 months now! Getting into a routine with the three kids is getting easier. My home isn't running as smoothly as I'd like, but I'm learning how to manage things a little better. J (age 5) is reading better now. So his little sisters enjoy listening to him. He is also better at working on his own some in his math book. Little A (age 3) is starting to learn some sight words, phonics, and numbers. She also loves handwriting and painting! We've enjoyed learning sign language and spanish through some DVDs at the library. The kids also enjoy science experiments and books. Borders bookstore has an amazing clearance section. I always seem to find great science books that the kids love. I will post more pictures of our science experiments in another post. I am so thankful for my family. God is so good!

J reading to A
After I was done nursing little L to sleep for a nap, I heard J reading to A! I was so excited that he wanted to read his little sister a book! It's so nice to see him enjoy reading!!! He loves the "piggie and elephant books" by Mo Willems. They make the kids laugh out loud!

Snow in March
My 5 year old son asked me a couple days ago... "Mom what language will L speak when she learns to talk?" My husband and I couldn't help, but laugh. Then, we explained that she will speak English because she learns to talk from us. Today my three year old daughter said, "Mom, I forget which language I speak. What's the name of our language?" I thought it was pretty cute :)

My husband was amazed that my son remembered a store that they visited over a year ago. My son says, "Daddy, do you want to know how I remember things? I just take a picture and write a note in my head. Then, when I want to remember, I log onto thinking.com in my brain."

Bible study
|
Here is the website for the study guide to go along with the 1 and 2 Peter series.
http://8witnesses.com/
There is a link at the bottom of the page that says "download study guide." In the study guide there are questions for parents to ask their kids. I love this because we read out of the Bible and then discuss theology. Recent questions include grace, sanctification, elect, resurection, etc. J has asked me why all Bibles are different because the children's bibles all vary in which stories they choose to include. I explained to him that the grown-up Bible is always the same, but it is so big that all the stories can't be included in an illustrated Bible. It has been very good for our family to read out of the grown up Bible and discuss theology! I love it!
