I'm a homeschool mom of 3 daughters. My aim in life is to glorify God by loving and serving my family, grow personally in my walk with Him, and being a Titus 2 woman to those younger than me. This blog is to share what God is doing in my life and in the life of our homeschool.
Princess is 9 years old . She was born a princess and continues to hold the title. She loves all things girlie and is talented in all things crafty.
Pixie is 7 and a half. She has a passion for truth, loves rocks and shells and has a huge collection of them.
Peanut is 5. She is fun loving, happy all the time and can make anybody laugh.
In the past I have mentioned our simple homeschool style in covering the basics and how we don't do a lot of extracurricular subjects like science and history and geography. In light of that and also mentioning our desire for learning to happen naturally I wanted to share our daughters adventures in geography in the car on the way to and from Seattle. Princess brought with her a compass and made sure to tell us exactly what direction we were driving on our trip. During the weekend we took the bus a lot (their favorite part) and the girls collected bus schedules with maps on them. On the way home they wanted to look at the maps I have in the car. Thankfully or strangely I had three Oregon Washington maps in the car so the two older girls got to look at their own map. Pixie decided she wanted to know more about the map so at a rest stop hubby showed them exactly where we were and they could follow the map as we drove. They watched for city names and exit numbers and learned how we tell how many miles between each city. They were so "into it". It was very fun to watch them learn in such a natural way "in the moment" of what we were doing. As far as I am concerned, I think that is the best way to learn.
What a great idea! I may try that on our vacation!
I can't believe the tree business--you poor thing!! I've heard that that happens, but it's so shocking! A year or so ago, around here somewhere a large tree fell on a car and killed a family of 5--mother, father and 3 kids. Left a baby. He was a pastor. Very traumatic. Glad you're okay. I wouldn't like wind either. Matter of fact, I don't need a tree to fall on me not to like it! Right now, I'm just trying to keep my kids from being terrified of every rain drop!
What fun! It sure helps teaching our kids when they have an interest in it. If you ever do want to look for a workbook in this area, we found the "Maps, Charts, Graphs" books (by Modern Curriculum Press) to be fun, colorful, and educational. They come in 8 different levels (for different grades) and are nice when you want to change pace from regular studies. Our boys really like them!

Sounds like a great, fun, and educational trip! The Science Center is amazing. I love stuff like that and sure hope my kids do too! Love the pictures of you all.
I want to go on a road trip too!
See you soon,
Rebeca
is the real education you are giving them in your daily life training skills - By that I mean all the other things you do do like sewing, earrings, fun family field trips. Bravo mama-D!

I found your blog through a link from A Circle of Quiet. You have a lovely site, and I so appreciate your honesty and just being a "normal" mom sharing. I am checking out some of your book suggestions, and will certainly be back to visit sometime soon!
How fun for them and encouraging for you! That is definitely the best way to learn!
All kids love maps. Actually, many adults do too. :-) I'm hoping to make a treasure map this month and bury something in the backyard for the kids to dig up. Shhhh...don't tell them though.
