I'm a homeschool mom of 3 daughters. My aim in life is to glorify God by loving and serving my family, grow personally in my walk with Him, and being a Titus 2 woman to those younger than me. This blog is to share what God is doing in my life and in the life of our homeschool.

Princess is 9 years old . She was born a princess and continues to hold the title. She loves all things girlie and is talented in all things crafty.

Pixie is 7 and a half. She has a passion for truth, loves rocks and shells and has a huge collection of them.

Peanut is 5. She is fun loving, happy all the time and can make anybody laugh.

Sunday, July 23, 2006 - Basket

At the risk of getting you all to hate me I am posting a picture of another craft I made a couple of weeks ago for my friends' daughters' birthday.  They live on some property and this little girl loves to collect things she finds. The idea isn't mine; I saw it in a catalogue and decided that I could probably make it myself. Yes, I have a container of basket weaving supplies in my laundry room. I had to use it since it now gives me justification in keeping it. Hubby has been asking me lately if we needed to keep the container since it had been a while since I made a basket.

This is Pixie modeling the basket for me.

So several years ago my friend, Birdee, made a basket with a friend and decided that we needed to learn to make them too.  Well, she didn't need to twist my arm since I am a bit of a sucker for a new craft skill.  We learned to make them and then made several as gifts for Christmas one year.  I think we both made them as gifts at least a couple of different times.  I wish I could get one made for myself though.  They are a lot of fun and not too difficult to learn. They also come together pretty quickly.  I can make one in an evening.  There are many basket making websites offering supplies and patterns and directions.

I think I have this sickness, or compulsion to get myself involved in every craft on the planet.  When I see something I like, the first thing I ask is "can I make it?"  If I don't know how, then I figure out a way to learn.  I like the challenge of learning how and then accomplishing it.  I made the comment before and I will say it again. I am jack of all crafts, master at none.  I learn just enough to get me by and then I stop.  I usually decide I am going to make something for Christmas gifts and then I need to learn how.  The problem with this is, can you imagine how many different types of craft supplies I have?

You will be happy to know that there is one thing I am not good at.  Well, there are many, but in the craft department I am hopeless at rubber stamping or scrapbooking.  I just can't do it and I am ok with that.

Susan

(PS-I have this itch to learn to knit socks.  Won't they be fun Christmas presents?   I don't know how to knit them yet.  Maybe if I start now?  Someone, please make me stop!)

Very cool basket. Keep showing your crafts; I will never make a basket but I like seeing them! I also want to learn to knit socks; had signed up for a class last year so have the needles, pattern, and yarn but... never made it to the class yet!

What a neat thing! And what a talented girl you are!

Now, socks... I love to knit socks! Last year everyone got a pair in their stocking, and they were their favorite gifts. Go figure! But they all claim that hand knit socks are more comfy than store bought. So go for it! Socks are super fun to knit, especially turning the heal. Just make sure that when you get to the heal, you go line-by-line... don't peak ahead or you'll freak out. Just do each line as written and pretty soon you'll have a heal! It's really fun.

This site shows you how to do the Kitchener Stitch, which you need to know to do the toes... http://www.socknitters.com/lessons/lessons.html

I simply am AMAZED. Wow, double wow. Not only are they fabulous to look at, but I'm a practical gal and function is everything. Nothing fluffy with this project. Cute little model as well!

What I want to know is where you find the *time* to do all this crafting. By the time I do school work with Marissa, get in a little time on the computer, I can barely keep the house to a decent level. Of course I live with 2 tornadoes, so that doesn't help out. I love to scrapbook, but seldom find the time.
That merry-go-round in front of the school made me say, ''AWWW!" I used to ride on one of those sometimes when we visited my grandmother. You look like you really enjoyed your trip. And, it is so beautiful there.
