I'm a homeschool mom of 3 daughters. My aim in life is to glorify God by loving and serving my family, grow personally in my walk with Him, and being a Titus 2 woman to those younger than me. This blog is to share what God is doing in my life and in the life of our homeschool.

Princess is 9 years old . She was born a princess and continues to hold the title. She loves all things girlie and is talented in all things crafty.

Pixie is 7 and a half. She has a passion for truth, loves rocks and shells and has a huge collection of them.

Peanut is 5. She is fun loving, happy all the time and can make anybody laugh.

Friday, August 18, 2006 - Tag

Here is a fun tag from Heather.

If you could write a novel about any subject, what would it be? (Just the subject–don’t give away your plot idea!)

It seems like I have always worked with kids in some capacity.  Before mine were born I came up with a secret desire.  It won't be secret now!  I decided that I would love to write a children's book.  I had experience as a nanny and I thought it would be fun to write a series of picture books about a family with lots of children and their  nanny.  Now as a mom and a homeschooler my perspective has changed quite a bit.  I'd still like to write a children's book but not about nannies.  My guess is that it would be about a homeschool family with lots of children and the adventures they go on and things they learn and the unconventional way they learn them.  I agree with Heather in how she answered her tag in that there are not as many good junior level books for girls.  It would be great to write a book for that age group but since I am not a gifted writer I will stick with the picture book idea.  So, now the secret is out and I guess you can conclude that my secret is a big part of why I started a blog; to practice my writing skills.

That was fun and if you want to answer the question please do but leave a comment so I can go read it.
Susan

Wow, I am glad I tagged you! I knew you would come up with a great one. Now we just need to form a group of women writing for homeschoolers and demand to be published. :) I was just telling my husband that with so many homeschooling I think there is an unexplored genre just waiting for us. :) Oh, and I used to be a nanny, too, to five children. :)

Go for it Susan! I dream of writing a book someday, but not a novel. (I've never been so good at stories.) I'd love to write a travel book, about the travel adventures of our family, you know, the ones we're going to have someday. When I was in Asia I really discovered how much I enjoyed writing, especially as there are so many interesting things to do and see, and always crazy things happening. And I love reading travel books, but they're usually by some single person who travels alone. I want to write one about the experiences of our homeschooling family in far off and exotic lands. What do you think?!

I just saw your comment today :). I hope you're having a good week-end. It's funny you should mention the horse unit ~ I just bought it a few weeks ago!! I really like the author, Amanda Bennett, and I noticed she has written quite a few of the unit studies on homeschool e-store. Thanks for thinking of us!

Michele

It would have to based on my daughter (as a character) going on adventures that I dreamed of as a child. That would be pretty selfish wouldn't it? Mary Pope Osbourne has already done a wonderful job of the time-travelling teaching theme, so I wouldn't dare write something in that genre.

Do we have to worry about marketing? LOL. Just kidding. I would love to write a book about being a pastor's wife and have it be about the nitty gritty part of life but how God provides even when we aren't looking. See, there's books like that already...I guess I better keep to blogging.

Great idea for a meme!

Susan,

Hey. It would not offend me at all if you change your template. It was thoughtful of you to ask first. :-D

I am working another job now, and I really don't have time to design templates anymore. Thank you for thinking of me though.

Hope you have a great week.
Blessings,

My 19 and 16 year old are writers. They have both actually written a story each that I think would make great children/young girls' books. Ashley's is a wonderful analogy about keeping your heart pure, and waiting for God to bring the person into your life that is right for you. Briana's is based on a nature, and has a wonderful Biblical truth and insight. It wowed me and spoke to me spiritually right where I was at the time. Our problem is knowing if they are good enough for publishing, and how on earth to go about it without getting swallowed up by the industry and the dishonest people out there.
I think I would love to write, too, but other than my blog, have never taken the time to try to think through it and develop it. Someone needs to write some really good, child friendly historical fiction-especially world history-for the 8-10 year old range.
Thanks for sharing your dreams.
