|
We simply cannot let those Smoky Mountain Bloggers have all the fun can we?
If you blog here at HSB and you live in Oregon, or will be in Oregon, then join us for a day of fun visiting in real life! ( or live in Washington, close enough for the drive)
Where: Timber Linn Park, Albany
When: 12:00 noon, Saturday, September 23rd
Bring your lunch and the entire family!
Lord willing...
I'll be there
Susan will be there (thats me)
??Will you be there??
Let us know and we'll add you to the list!
Oh, and spread the word. Link here or the Company Blog
PS- If you need further directions let me know. It's a pretty easy find, right off I5.

Oh I wish, I wish, I wish I could!!!
Oregon is so beautiful and it would be GREAT FUN to actually meet you, Susan! *sigh* There is absolutely no way this fall. Too busy.
However, if there is a spring get-together, then maybe we could join you. I'm hoping to visit my brother in LA in the spring and then drive up the pacific coast highway up to Washington. Where in Oregon are you?
Love,
Marsha |

We'll be in Denver/Colorado Springs area looking for a church and house from tomorrow through the 25th.
BTW - late comment on your history search - but we are really liking Tapestry of Grace. The materials cover k-12 per volume and most of the books are available through the library as she gives the scriptural references and recommends you use whatever sources cover the general topic rather than one specific book for most topics. The viewpoint is conservative, evangelical protestant (I'm going by feel, not fact) rather than the reformed viewpoint of Veritas Press (although we like their cards as well).
TOG goes well with our Charlotte Mason approach as she recommends tons of hands-on stuff each week and encourages the child to take ownership of planning what materials to cover when from about 4th gr up. It also covers Literature (based on time period you're studying in History) and Writing (based on responses from the History study as well). Of course, Geography is also covered pretty deeply as you map out the era studied. We're also enjoying her info on Artists, Architecture, Musicians and other famous and not-so famous folks from each time frame. VERY in-depth curriculum and gives way more than you could do in a week IMHO. This could be the best kept secret in homeschooling. We're thoroughly impressed and the kids are loving the steamboats they're making this week as we study Robert Fulton and the era of John & Abigail Adams Presidency and Napolean's reign. Very hands-on if you want it, but extra literary if you prefer that! Great Biblical perspective of what God is doing in the world (not just USA) and plenty of sources and notes to fill any public school gaps you may have had.
Author has a blog...I don't know it...check their website (tough to navigate, but lots of free links there as well by TOG Year). |

| Since we live in SW Washington it's a doable drive, except my daughters 8th birthday party is that night at 6pm. I'll have to think about being psycho and driving all day and then hosting a party. I'll see if I can drag Grace4Gayle along with me. :) |

| I live near Bremerton, WA... I am looking it up to see how far Albany is from us. I had a friend in college from Albany, OR... actually two friends: Brenda and Linnea. Anyway, how much fun would a HSB picnic be. |

Waaaa! We're already booked for that day. I would love to come though. I hope this will only be the first of many!
Thanks again for the delicious meal the other night. The red meat must be helping because I'm feeling stronger by the day.
