I'm a homeschool mom of 3 daughters. My aim in life is to glorify God by loving and serving my family, grow personally in my walk with Him, and being a Titus 2 woman to those younger than me. This blog is to share what God is doing in my life and in the life of our homeschool.
Princess is 9 years old . She was born a princess and continues to hold the title. She loves all things girlie and is talented in all things crafty.
Pixie is 7 and a half. She has a passion for truth, loves rocks and shells and has a huge collection of them.
Peanut is 5. She is fun loving, happy all the time and can make anybody laugh.
I always wait until I catch up on my blog reading before I write in my own blog. Then it is late and I should really go to bed. But it seems that late is when the words start to flow. I have always been this way. I can't focus on anything important before 10:00 am. In college I gave up taking early morning classes. I scheduled them no earlier than 9:00 am but usually 10:00am. That guaranteed I would actually show up! It seems like Pixie is just like me. She has shown signs of being a night owl since she was a baby. At 7 1/2 I can say that she definately is a night owl. I think we are all born with an internal clock and while circumstances can dictate it to some degree, we tend to do better when we function on our own clock.
Ok, so that was not why I was writing. Tomorrow is my HOPE meeting. I have shared about that before. It is my mom's homeschool group. HOPE stands for "homeschoolers offering prayer and encouragement". I love this group. I love all the women in it. God has brought togehter a unique group of women with different backgrounds and who come from different churches. I am so blessed by these women and the courage, gifts, and wisdom they bring. Even better, I love the children. I love when we get together with the kids because they are all so delightful. It really is a group of comfort. HOPE is going to be at my house for the first time tomorrow. So, I am sure tomorrow after school is done we will be cleaning and preparing for the meeting. I am looking forward to it, to sharing my home. I haven't always felt that way, but I know God wants me to be hospitable and so I am choosing to overcome my own issues with it. Our topic for the evening will be how we teach/train our children the words of the bible. Do we do devotions, bible studies, verse memory, bible curriculum, Awana, or something else? So tell me, what do you do? I'd love to share some good ideas/products from you.
I will try to make a list of what we do and share them tomorrow night. (if they give me permission).
The rock museum is the Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals in Hillsboro: www.ricenwmuseum.org. Sorry I don't know how to put a link in comments!
Five years ago at the NICHE (Iowa) annual homeschool conference I found a book called "Sword Fighting" by Karyn Henley. It has a full year of bible scriptures. We continue to use her method using "For Instruction in Righteousness" and the Bible, of course. Email me if you want to know more! Luke is wonderful at morning devotions with the children. They have learned 200 verses this way.

We do a devotional every morning along with our morning meeting time.We read a short story from a christian magazine our church makes available to our children. Its called Pockets. There are daily devotionals inside and stories.
We were doing a once a week study time in the evening. Now though I broke the kids up a bit. I split the girls up and we have tea time. Where we discuss important girl issues and how they relate to the bible. At this time we are making things up. There was another blogger doing something similar but dont remember who. Then with my son who is younger we read the stories and while I read one he draws a picture to go along with it.
Your group sounds awesome! There is nothing like encouragement from women traveling down the same path.
So, I'm feeling really smart today. I picked up the CD from Sept. 17th, realized about halfway through that I was there for that one! Ooops! I'll be able to get the CD from the 24th tomorrow night and hopefully listen to it sometime this week.
Enjoy your fellowship tonight!
I, too, am a night owl...always have been!
Anyway, my kids and I have Bible reading (directly from the New King James version) and memory verses we work on every morning. (We just finished memorizing Psalm 1.) Once a week we also read a story about missionaries and read about and pray for countries around the world that do not have the Bible printed in their own language.
Each evening my husband reads a story from Egermeier's Bible Story Book (the best "story book" I've found so far).
I can't wait to hear other ideas and/or resources!
