Wednesday, November 15, 2006 - Changes are coming
|
My little world is going to change and I am not sure what to think of it. I am a bit miffed that someone has to mess with my life (and that of my husbands). I like things the way they are. I suppose I will say first of all that I am thankful that we homeschool and I am thankful that my husband has a job. Now, on to the change report. My husband works M-F from 6:30am to about 5:00pm. He has been told that his schedule will change. It will be Wed-Sat from 6:30am to about 8:00pm. He is going to 4 days a week, 10 hours a day. Now do you notice that his schedule actually is 14 hours. Yep, thats right folks. I guess his employer doesn't know how to add. It's not so bad if one were getting paid hourly. So, for 4 days a week his kids will not see him and when he gets home, he has about an hour before he needs to go bed. The other bad news is that if a holiday falls on one of his days, he doesn't get it off, even though he is technically exempt which means, he gets holidays off. Its really pretty rediculous. What that means for us, is that our school schedule is likely going to have to change, and I don't do well with change. I finally got our school schedule consistent. His weekend is Sun., Mon. and Tue. and I want to have our time off with him. But I really don't want to do school on Sat. That just doesn't feel right. Oh well, we will make due and figure it all out. I am just trying to process it all.
Susan

Can I just share that we found out yesterday morning that they are completely changing my dh's schedule too. He works 6p-6a on a rotating schedule...now it will be the same hours, just a different rotation....
Dh was a bit upset...but then we were both just so thankful that I do not work outside the home and the boys are not sent off to school...so whenever he is home we will be home with him and when he is home the books are put away and we enjoy our time even if it is a Tues-Wed. That sometimes mean school work on Friday and Saturday.
That's okay...the hardest part comes when you try to do things with OTHERS...our schedule is SO different from EVERYONE we know...it is very hard to do things w/ them.
I just have to be so thankful for this opportunity to be with my children and to re-arrange my schedule as to make the most of every moment with my husband. I really have to put the visors up and NOT look around at everyone else...but focus on our family and the re-newing of our mind from what society says is 'normal'.
Well I wont go on....but be encouraged, you have the best possible situation at home (as do I)... our jobs are to be a help meet to our husbands when ever / where ever they work.

Oh Susan. what a mess that is! I am so sorry that they changed your hubby's schedule like that. This week Adam has been going to a class up in portland, and has been gone till late. I can't imagine that happening everyday. I will be praying for your situation.
I got the necklace in the mail yesterday! Thanks! Yesterday was Madeline's birthday, and when I opened the necklace she looked at me and gave me the puppy dog eye look and said "oh mom. It's soooooo pretty." *blink* *blink*. She loved it so much, I gave it to her. It made a great little birthday present..hehe! She put it on, and didn't take it off until it was time for bed. The necklace is getting lots of use and love!! :)

The only encouragement I can offer is that maybe there is a hidden blessing here. Maybe the new schedule will actually be a huge blessing in ways unforeseen. Right off the bat, I'm thinking it's pretty terrific that you have Mondays and Tuesdays off- most other people are at work or in school and you guys can have field trips without gobs of people there and you can grocery shop in a quieter store than on Saturdays.
Just trying to look for a silver lining somewhere!
Blessings,

Sorry to hear of the schedule change but I pray it will work out for the better. It is a blessing that due to being at home, you have the flexibility to change. Let us know how you work things out.

Susan,
Just want to let you know that I am praying that you will have a smooth transition with your changing schedule. I'm not a huge fan of change, either, but God is good and has everything changing for a reason... It's your job to make the best of it all! Keep us posted on how everything works out.
Blessings,
Christine |

I'm so sorry that this has happened. It's true that us wives really have a lot to deal with sometimes to continue just supporting our men. He's most likely bummed as well, huh?
What does your hubby do? 14 hours is a LOT of work in one day. :) the lazy side of me says...yikes. |
