I'm a homeschool mom of 3 daughters. My aim in life is to glorify God by loving and serving my family, grow personally in my walk with Him, and being a Titus 2 woman to those younger than me. This blog is to share what God is doing in my life and in the life of our homeschool.
Princess is 9 years old . She was born a princess and continues to hold the title. She loves all things girlie and is talented in all things crafty.
Pixie is 7 and a half. She has a passion for truth, loves rocks and shells and has a huge collection of them.
Peanut is 5. She is fun loving, happy all the time and can make anybody laugh.
This is a hard question because there are so many reasons why I homeschool. I first heard of homeschooling through my mentor whom I met more than 10 years ago. Her children were young and she was in the beginning years of homeschooling. I had no idea that it was even a possibility. I decided right then and there that I was going to homeschool. I had planned on being a teacher (which didn't happen but I'd need to write another blog on how I met my husband) so I might as well teach my children. Then I had my first child and I began the journey of learning about home educating my children. I read everything I could get my hands on. In the process, God started to convict my heart on what was best for my children and I got to the point where I couldn't turn back (and this was before I had even started school). Thankfully my husband is and always has been on the same page as me.
The more I read about public education the more I knew that I could never send my kids there. I also believe that the best place for my kids to spend their days is at home with me and with their siblings. The reason for this is to maintain and nurture the relationships within our family. I saw too many kids whose hearts have turned away from their families and it is a sad thing. I didn't want that.
From a spiritual standpoint God commands us to teach our children about Him. (Deut 6:6-9) It is our responsibility and we will be judged in how well we do this. Having my children gone all day in school does not allow ample time to train our children in the ways of the Lord. There are so many training opportunities that I have encountered that I realize I would have missed had they been in school. I am so thankful for these opportunities.
I enjoy being able to taylor my children's education to suit their needs and preferences. I love that they can get into a project and have as much time as they need to complete it instead of being rushed to the next subject. I want their learning to be fun and interesting and I have the opportunity to make that happen.
I know my children better than any other teacher will ever know my children. I am the best one to make decisions on their behalf. If anyone would suggest that my degree isn't high enough I beg to differ. I have a doctorate degree (or close to it) with my oldest daughter (8), a masters with my 6 year old, and a bachelors with my 4 year old. Can you imagine how many degrees I will have by the time they graduate!
Goodness, there are many more reasons to homeschool that it would require many conversations about it. I believe that it is the best way to educate our children both spiritually and academically.
