Sunday, January 15, 2006 - Equipping believers
|
Equipping believers----- What does this actually mean? How do we equip believers to follow Christ and to reach out to others? What does this look like individually and corporately? Does this mean lots of programs? And what should programs accomplish? Does it mean small groups? Does it mean individual discipling relationships?
I know there are a wide variety of answers to these questions and it can look different in lots of situations. Will you readers please help me out here. I'd just love to compile a bunch of different ways we can help equip each other. I've thought about this a lot and have had many discussions with my hubby so I definately have some views on this but I'd love to see where other people are at. Are they doing this well, or do they feel like they haven't done such a good job in this area and would like to improve.
Thanks, I can't wait to see what we come up with. Susan

Sunday, January 15, 2006 - I personally need...... |
| Posted by Hollie |
I need to be equipped by all of the above. I need to be in church to be surrounded by other believers, their testimonies, and their walks and to learn from a pastor and his wisdom, teaching, and interpretation. I need small groups to learn from peers and where they are in their walk. I need a mentor, although I have never had one, but I know I could greatly benefit from one. And I like the programs to combine the small group plus mentor type teaching feel.
I was just trying to choose one to elaborate on but they all serve a different purpose in my walk. |

| I think equipping does come from teaching, and that can be in a variety of programs. My thoughts have been more along the line of: what do you do when apathy is so prevalent that people do not desire to be equipped? There is a certain amount of personal responsibility that is required in order for people to be taught and "equipped" to show God's Glory. They must know about God, who He is, and Love Him with all their heart, soul, mind and strength. I think that is the biggest hurdle we will face. |

Tuesday, January 17, 2006 - Discipleship |

I have been doing a bible study on the book of JOhn. One thing I noticed and would LOVE to study more on is discipleship and all its facets. I think the modern church has a lot wrong. I think they mean well, but many things within the church don't do what Jesus did when He went around in town :).
I have noticed-When I was younger in my faith, I was very zealous. I still am, but not to the extent that I was at that time. I was also very transparent. I would have been the first to admit that I needed a lot of change. I learned so much and I wasnt' afraid to share what I learned with anyone that had ears! Because of that, quite a few young girls became my friends. They are still my friends-but don't come around quite as often because I have since gotten married. Anyway, they were often the ears my witness would fall on and they ate it up! they would come to me with questions...or with problems...or to just come by and talk or ruminate over God's word. I don't think I was in a position to disciple or lead them, but in a way, I did!
Today, most of the girls go to my MIL. She is very wise and often leads conversation to scriptural things when the girls are around. She often challenges them to see errors in their thinking-or choices...THat I believe is true discipleship. It is being open and willing to admit we still have room to change-becasue we aren't as perfect as Jesus. It is always being there-24/7-no matter what time of the night, no matter what day of the week. I am learning, also, that we should help younger believers to grow in their knowledge of God and HIs ways with mankind-thus, learning more about Jesus. The more we know and understand, the deeper our faith goes. Having that deep of a faith to be equipped to defend the gospel no matter what.
i hope this all makes sense. I was kind of just typing thoughts...
Heather :)
very good question! one I think of often! |
