CONTEST! CONTEST! CONTEST!

Yup! I think I'm gonna have a contest.  Back when I started blogging I wrote a post about trying to come up with a school name for our homeschool.  Well, I've thought some about it but still haven't come up with anything great.

That's where you come in.  It's going to take a bunch of you to make it work.  All of you leave a comment to tell me what you think a great homeschool name would be for us.  I realize that may be a bit difficult since you don't know us personally but you have read some of my blogs and know what is important to us.  I am hoping to maybe incorporate my blog title, but it isn't necessary.  As for our last name, which I took off my profile from the advice of Rebeca, it basically is the last part of my username but with a very different  french spelling with many letters that don't seem to belong.  My goal is to pick a suggestion from one of you.  I realize that it may not work, as in the rest of the family might not care for any of the suggestions.  But I will pick one anyways to give a prize to.

If it is a mom, then she will receive a nice pair of earings, made by me, of the color of her choice.  They are sterling silver with swarovski crystals, or glass beads.  If there is a dad who enters and wins then he will have the choice of having a pair of earings to give to his wife or a book of my choice.  Ok bloggers, put your thinking caps on and leave a comment with your suggestion.  Oh- I will run this for a week and then make my decision in a couple of days after that.  Contest ends Tuesday, March 7th.  Spread the word!

• Leave a note!

Okay. A few questions...are you having any more children (such as a boy child) someday? Do you prefer academic sounding or Biblical? Hmmm...how about the French name - is it important to play off the French heritage?

Thats funny because I was on your blog leaving a comment telling you to come over. OK, I think that biblical sounding is great. But educational is fine too. I like the French thing because of the way it sounds more than any personal attachment or meaning. I am pretty sure we are done and that there are not any little boys to grace our family.

Hmmmm...I am so terrible with these kinds of things. It took me forever to come up with a name for our homeschool- Joyful Harvest Christian Academy.

Maybe you can incorporate Rubies into your school name? (after Proverbs 31's virtuous woman).

I'll be sure to spread the word!

Love,
Marsha

Not that we ever refer to it, but our school name is St James School. Just 'cuz I like the book of James and we were memorizing it at the time (just finished 2 weeks ago.)

Why not just combine your last name with Ladies in Training?

Tuesday, February 28, 2006 - we don't use a name...

Posted by hippiechyck
but when i have to it's "Happy City Acadamy" since that is the Greek meaning of our last name...at least i wasn't working off my maiden name, which means "bird's beak" in German! alaksjshdgf!

so, what does your last name mean in French? (or nationality of choice)

Our last name means "from the narrows" in French. Which is more specifically from an area near a body of water.

Oh my! I love those earrings. What a talented woman you are.

And I have to think to win a pair? And I have to think better than anyone else?

Oh. This is not right. This is just not right.

This is where a quick wit would come in handy, but that's never been my strong suit. But I will be thinking. Stranger things have happened.

Wednesday, March 1, 2006 - A Few Suggestions

Posted by Confessor
Okay, there are the obvious ones:

Water On The Brain Christian Academy - You know - you're in a humid place? Maybe it would sound better in French.

Coeur d'Pere - I don't have the accent marks or anything. "Heart of the Father" How about that?!

Alther, similar alternatives: Coeur Blesse (aching heart), Du Fond Du Coeur (from the heart), A Coeur De Ouvert (heart-to-heart), De Tout Mon Coeur (with all my heart)

Okay, I'm done with the French. I hate French.

I'll let you know if I come up with something in English!

Wednesday, March 1, 2006 - This is a tough assignment, but those earrings are worth it!

Okay. I was thinking along the lines of Ladies in Training, using the first letters as an acronym, so work with me here!
1. The HomeLIT School
2. Homelit for Life
3. On Lit Academy (pronounced "Ohn Lee" - as in "one reads" in present tense of the french verb lire - to read) or Academie for a more french feel with out proper grammatical placement of articles.
4. L'Ecole d'Elle Lit (weakly translated to the She Reads School...)
5. School of LITE - Ladies in Training Everyday/for Excellence/Eventually...whatever!

And of course my daughter absolutely cackled at this one:
6. Mama Duseaux's Finishing School (obviously you'd fix the spelling)
That's all I got...I'll let you know if anything else pops into my crazy head.

well, going off of the french theme...I thought of Jolie fille (beautiful girls) or Belle fille (I think it means beautiful girls as well) I'll have to give some more thought to biblical names. I have never gave much thought to naming my homeschool. Perhaps I should name mine!

Interesting that you are talking about this (as I have been trying to come up with something also). How about "Growing Flowers Academy"....when I think of flowers I think of girls....they are growing and with your guidance (and some "Son"shine) they will bloom into beautiful flowers.

I would use it myself, but since I am trying to have another child (and thus cannot predict whether or not a boy would be added to the equation) I am trying to think of something that is more neutral. Granted, it could be ok with a boy, but I automatically think "GIRL" with flowers, LOL..

I have even been trying to think up something for each letter of FLOWER...you know, like "For Love Of..." <~~~you get the drift...I couldn't quite come up with something that made me go "oooooh, ahhhhh" though.

How's about

"Dusseault Academy" Being doers, not just hearers, of the Word

'Course that's more biblical then educational-ish.

Er, that's all I can think of now, but I will be back-- Your earings are the best!

Wednesday, March 1, 2006 - Hi!

I wanted to thank you for your thoughtful comments on the "alcohol post". I agree about respecting others but I get caught wondering why the abstainers are sometimes "allowed" to judge the drinkers, making it so that they can't enjoy a casual drink but the coin isn't allowed to be flipped: the drinkers can't judge the nondrinkers for not having enough grace...make sense? probably not...well that's just my head rambling.

My, a contest! How exciting! I thought/assumed your school was called Ladies in Training. You could take the initials and call yourselves "The Lord's L.I.T.E. HOUSE" to stand for The Lord's Ladies in Training for Eternity. (like a lighthouse for the Lord?)

How about "Narrow Way Girls School" or Narrow Way acadamy/girls acadamy/acadamie

We have taken up Nehemiah as our Family Identifier
So we are called Wallbuilder's Acadamy (sp)

I'm sure the only time I'll use it is when I print up Diploma's/Transcripts

Thanks for stopping by my blog... I'm completely humbled by your comments and thank you so much for your encouraging words. I've been having a tough time lately, and yesterday was really hard... then this article came out and reminded me that I am HIS and that I need to surrender to Him EVERYDAY.

Thanks again for stopping by. I'm humbled by how the Lord used me to speak to each of you.

I will have to check back next week and see who won! We had to name our school when we mailed paperwork in to become a homeschool. So I had no time to think on it. We used our name, so it is Fox Christian Academy.

I like the references so far to the Ladies in Training.

Thank you for your comment on my blog. And a tagline is a short sentence used for marketing. Such as "You deserve a break today."

Have a blessed day! Tami

Oops! The first one is Narrow Way Academy and the second is Sugar and Spice Academy. :)

I am wrapping up a survey (and contest) on internet security. I am quite interested in the results, since so many seem to have concerns as of late. Please stop by and answer the survey questions. http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/Janne/89977/

Okay, I've been thinking about a name for your school. What about "More Than Rubies"? I was thinking about something from Proverbs 31 since you have all girls and as I was reading it, I read those words and thought about how you make jewelry and how that also ties in to being a Prov. 31 woman. And your girls *are* worth more than rubies. Oh and in French it's "Plus que les Rubis".

Just a thought..... you may want to think of a name that when your daughters are applying for colleges will sound reputable. I know you have a few years to worry about that possibility and you can always change the name in the future, but it's just a thought that I had
Also, your earrings look beautiful. I make beaded jewelry myself, so maybe we can compare our goods sometime!
May God Bless you in your quest for a name.
Christy :)
