Recently, I got all excited when reading in our local fish wrapper about how to save money at the gas station. Gas prices are fluctuating all over our dear country and we are baring the brunt of it.
One suggestion that I wanted to try was to fill my gas tank up before 10 am on Thursday, according to GasBuddy.com, because prices start climbing when travelers fill up for the weekend. My current habit is to fill up my gas guzzler at Sam's Club or Costco.
I checked the BP's price (right down the road from our bakery) on last Thursday morning before 10 am and it was $3.26. As I was driving by Sam's Club that same morning, I slowed down and saw that they were offering their "liquid gold" for only $3.11. I filled up my tank at Sam's Club. Driving home that afternoon I saw that BP's price was still $3.26.
Have you all noticed, in your neighborhoods, the trend of gas prices spiraling out of control for weekend travel? Do you fill your gas tanks up on Thursdays? I think I will stay with my habit.
We try to avoid weekend fills. Gas is $3.26 near the Twin Cities, but has been $3.18 around here lately. Sometimes prices jump for the weekend, but it hasn't lately - not sure why. I travel much less these days - it saves money all the way around without going to stores! :)
I try to avoid buying gas on weekends too. I try to fill up at BJs whenever I can because the members price is anywhere between 2 to 6 cents cheaper than other stations. I have also heard that it's best to fill up in the morning before the ground (and the tanks in it) warm up - you get slightly more gas for your money. And to NOT fill up when a tanker truck is at the station filling those tanks. Apparently that stirs up the gas storage and you're likely to get dirt in your tank which compromises your fuel effciency.
I have never heard that tip before, thanks for sharing it. I only know that around here the gas prices can go up (and rarely down) more than once a day! Dh and I have never figured out why...he can drive into work and the price is one figure, I note a different price when I am out and about, and on his drive home it will have changed again! We just try to catch it at a good price and fill up then...cost me $51 last week! Hope you have a blessed week and your full tank lasts a while. Julie http://funinthesunmom.blogspot.com
I have noticed that the price of gas in our neighborhood can change two to three times a day. Usually it is cheaper on Mondays or Tuesdays around here, so I try to buy it then.

Our Kroger offers 10 cents off per gallon if you spend $100. That price is usually the same as Costco or Sams, which are both 25- 30 minutes from my house, as you know, but your house is closer to Costco and Sams, so do stick with your habit!
Love you,
Jenn
((sigh)) The whole thing about gas prices. I do wish there was some way to save money. We have to get as much done as we can when we do go out and try not to take more trips than needed.
Gas prices don't seem to have a particular day to go up here, but then again we are a touristy area so that probably makes things here different from other parts of the country. We fill up at Sam's on the weekend when we go to town. Gas has been staying about 14 cents a gallon cheaper there than elsewhere.
We are an hour north of you, and I have noticed that lately, they are changing them on Tuesday. In fact, I just filled up this morning because they were raising prices at some stations.
Also, you mentioned BP. They get their gasoline from the Middle East. I try to find stations that do not use oil from the Middle East. There are a few out there. I also heard from a friend that they have noticed that gasoline from Kroger seems to last longer than from other stations.
Yes, our gas prices are going up too. I've never heard of the Thursday morning thing though, I will have to watch for that. Thanks for the tip. :)

we live on base so the gas is pretty cheap, compared to the stations off the base. I heard somewhere that Tuesday was the cheapest day to fill up, but I haven't done any research.
I will have to look at the Thursday prices from now on.
I am not a home educator, but am very proud of my daughter, jenn4him, who homeschools my three precious grandchildren. I admire you all. Thank you for being my source of inspiration.
May God Bless You,
