Wolves in my bathroom
Apparently there are wolves in my bathroom.  I know this because my 4-year-old wouldn't go in there to get her hairbrush this morning without begging for her dad to accompany her.  Since my husband is quite innovative and also, let's face it, a little tired of being the Bodyguard when it comes to open closet doors, dark upstairs rooms and wolves in the bathroom, he suggested she take his cell phone with her and call him if there was trouble.

Never mind the fact that she doesn't know his phone number.  Apparently, she thought it was a pretty good idea because she wandered off with the phone.  And I chuckled inwardly as I envisioned his little black flip phone lying in the bottom of the toilet (I know how these things happen).

As it turned out, the phone came back safely a few minutes later, but her hair still looked like she'd just rolled out of bed.  Apparently that little piece of what I like to think of as "miracle technology" provides no real protection against the threat of bathroom wolves and the Bodyguard is left with his job security.

I realize its been nearly 2 years since I've posted anything in my blog.  And life has taken many interesting and wonderful turns since then.  (More on that later!)  I was just recently inspired to return to bloggy land after seeing an article in our local newspaper featuring one of my favorite fellow bloggers of yore and her new genius blog!  Check it out here: Grocery Cart Challenge.  Not only was I inspired to return to blogging, but my 9 year old daughter also decided to try her hand at blogging, which to me is just a great excuse to develop her writing skills and avoid any extra, forced homeschool planning on my part.   Here's her first attempt:  A Wonderful Life.  More importantly, Gayle's website has challenged me to drastically re-evaluate my shopping/menu-planning skills and try to cut my $500+ a month grocery bill down to more like $300 a month or less, which, to me, would be like a miracle.  For those of you looking to do something similar, check out her wonderfully motivating and clever site and I'll be sure to occasionally share my successes and failures in here.  Accountability can be incredibly motivating after all.

Nov. 20, 2008 - Thoughts from the Eldest Sister

My grocery bill is under $200 to feed three people. Of course, now that I think about it, Mike does do about $100 worth of groceries during the month, so...
Maybe it's because we learned how to shop from mom LOL. Go every day and it adds up LOL.
