May. 25, 2006 - Write a Letter to Your Child/ren.
This was my task for today!
My Dearest Boy,
Where do I start? You mean so much to me, my son, and you have brought a very special sunlight into my world. When you were born, I was so happy - at last, I had a child to call my own! I thought I had left it too late - after all, even the midwife was calling me an "elderly primate" (or was she trying to tell me I was an aging gorilla?!?). The nine months until your birth seemed to be dragging towards the end, now, you were here - and you were perfect!
Now that you are growing up, I have so much that I want to tell you about how dear you are to me. I love your shyness when you first meet new people - the way you keep looking back towards either myself or your Dad to make sure that we're still there. I also love it when your confidence begins to shine through and you are able to go off and play with your new-found friends without any qualms. It is such a joy to watch you developing.
I love the way you say your prayers at night. You are proud to call God your Father and to ask his blessings not only for yourself but also for those you care for. I especially love the way you "talk to your best friend (Jesus)" as you go about your daily business. It is wonderful to see such a faith in you at this age and to know that this faith will grow as you become a young man.
I like the funny way you sit when you are reading a book - how you can cross your legs like that is beyond me!
I love your sense of humour - your laugh is a joy to me. When I hear you laughing out loud at something you have seen, heard or read, my heart is full of happiness. The comments you come out with at times are outstanding - I'll never forget the way you compared that giant lizard to King Kong ("Just like King Kong but without the charm!" - Brilliant!).
I love your special gifts. Your ability to mimic, your martial art skills, your love of books and reading, your growing mathematical skills, and your ability to light up a room just by walking into it! You really are "my special boy".
Perhaps most of all, I love the way you care about people and animals. You strive to treat everyone and everything with respect and kindness. The way you treated your pet cat was joyous - the tears you cried when he died were so real. I've seen you moved to tears by many things, this shows me that you are a child who cares.
So there you are, my precious boy, this is how your Mum thinks of you.
Lots of Love,
Mum

Someone, somewhere recommended that we write letters every year to our children. Just in case the Lord calls us home and to have a wonderful gift as your child turns 18 or graduates college ~ whenever they are mature enough to receive such blessings. I've tried this and just ended up crying, thank you for reminding me to try again.
finding the blessings,

Your Mum was so proud of you!
What a blessing she was. I can't wait to meet her in heaven. Lean on your Daddy and also on your heavenly Father as you live on without your sweet Mum, and He will gird you up and give you strength like He gave to her.
She told me in emails how much she loved you, and reading her blog, you can tell you are a shining star in her life. I know she always had your best interest at heart and would have fought like a lion to protect you from anything that would take you off of the LORD's path.
We are praying for you and your Papa.
Lots of love from the Dixons...
