The Olive Grove

Saturday 13 September 2008 - This Week in the Olive Grove

It is hard to believe that we have gone through four weeks of academics already.  Our current routine seems to be working well ~ at least for the younger set (10yob, 8yob, and 6yog.)

I am still fine-tuning our Monday specials.  J~Man had his first lego robotics class this week, and he had a great time.

Tuesday's co-op is also a hit.  We have never done anything like this before, but it is very low-key; if it weren't, I wouldn't do it!  It only lasts 2 1/2 hours.  There are only 13 kids and 4 moms.  The price is right ~ free; I didn't even have any books to buy!  O Special One, however, decided that the Classical Conversations Seminars were not her cup of tea, and I must admit that it is a bit of a relief to me ~ one less thing on the agenda.

Tuesday afternoon Lulapalooza has gymnastics, and Wednesday afternoon Sgt. Elf and Toodles have dance class.

Again, if it were not convenient, I wouldn't bother.  All of these activities are within 2 1/2 miles of our home and the classes are very reasonably priced.  Although it does put me out of the house more days than I like, so we may drop the gymnastics and dance in December for about 6 months; we'll see.

Sgt. Elf managed to get no lessons done since before leaving for Mexico (she has been babysitting almost every day since she returned), so she spent Friday doing two weeks' worth of grammar and algebra.  She is caught up in those subjects now, and she had finished up most of her other studies for the year.

O Special One and I need to sit down next week (again) and figure out a strategy (again) for getting the things that she needs accomplished.  She is my most right-brained, artistic, square peg, and I absolutely love her for it, but she lacks self motivation, so we are always trying to find a plan that we can both live with.

I also need to set aside some time next week to go over rhetoric with Frap; she is having a hard time getting it.  All of her other studies are going well.
