The Olive Grove

Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the very heart of your house, your children like olive plants all around your table. ~Psalm 128:3

Saturday 20 September 2008 - This Week in the Olive Grove

  Monday

Our first cold front arrived!  We awoke to low humidity, a strong breeze, and temperatures in the 60s, so the kids happily played outside.

Sgt. Elf had to babysit, and Frap worked at MOPS.

J~Man had his second Lego Robotics class; he is loving it!

Lulapalooza, Toodles, and I opened up the Christian Home Library.  While we were there L did his readings, and T played with building blocks.  Then they both played out on the church playground while I did some work.

I had a lazy afternoon thanks to allergy meds.  Unfortunately, with the cooler temps came the ragweed.

For the kids the afternoon was devoted to free reading, playing outside, room cleaning, and watching PBS kids.

 Tuesday

Our third week of co-op, and the kids learned: the three kinds of muscle (skeletal, smooth, and cardiac), about the Boston Tea Party, five more state capitols, and three more Latin words.  They also practiced their 5 & 6 facts.  We stayed and shared lunch with our friends, and then it was on to gymnastics and back home for another quiet afternoon of (somewhat) productive free time.

 Wednesday

The morning was devoted to academics, specifically ~ seatwork ~ spelling, grammar, copywork, and math.

In the afternoon the younger girls had their dance classes, and the boys did their readings in history and literature.

 Thursday

Another morning spent doing math, read alouds, copywork, and spelling.

In the afternoon Frap and I went for smoothies for her special teatime.

Then, in the evening, O Special One and I made a trip to a new riding stable where she hopes to take jumping lessons.

 Friday

We wrapped up our academic work, and enjoyed an afternoon of outside play with friends and a simple sandwich supper complete with fresh tomatoes which hubby brought home from the farmer’s market.

We have another week of formal lessons followed by a two-week break before our final six-week academic term of the year.

If only the housework were progressing as smoothly as the studies ~sigh.~
