Thursday 8 October 2009 - Thankful Thursday ~ the flu/pneumonia edition

Last Thursday Sgt. Elf was healthy.  Her younger siblings had "chest colds", and I was starting to feel one coming on.  Friday it was her turn, and by Saturday night she was in ICU at Children's Hospital with a partially collapsed lung.  Yesterday she got to come home.

I am very thankful for:

  • my wonderful husband who insisted on taking her in (I didn't realize how sick she was, since I was spending most of my time in bed myself.)
  • countless prayer warriors ~ many of whom did not even know us
  • emergency rooms
  • ambulance drivers
  • Children's Hospital
  • ICU
  • doctors
  • nurses
  • respiratory therapists
  • physical therapists
  • medical technology
  • insurance to pay for it
  • friends who brought the rest of my family food
  • 13-year-old lungs that are working again
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you says the LORD.
Thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

  • Thankful Thursday

Dear Father in Heaven,

I have so much to be grateful for.

I thank You that my family is safe and healthy and whole, and I ask You to help me to remember what a precious gift from You they are, and to treasure each and every moment I have with them.

I thank you for my home, and I ask You to help me to be a better steward of that which you have provided.

I thank You for my life and this day which You have made, and I ask You to help me to rejoice and be glad in it.

Thursday 31 July 2008 - Thankful Thursday

It has been a long time since I did one of these posts, and I have so very much to be grateful for.

Thou art my God, and I will praise Thee:
Thou art my God, I will exalt Thee.
O give thanks unto the LORD; for He is good:
for His mercy endureth for ever.

~Psalm 118:28&29

I am thankful that I am alive...and healthy...and even moreso that I have the promise of eternal life...with God...in heaven; how cool is that?!

I am thankful that I live in Texas...even though it is ridiculously hot...almost every day...for months without end; but this is where He has me, so it is where I am supposed to be...and the homeschool laws are great...and I love my church family...and I have wonderful friends here...and a home...and two dogs...and airconditioners...all of which I am thankful for.

I am thankful for the wonderful parents that I was blessed to have been raised by...even though I miss my daddy something fierce...and my mama has alzheimer's...so I kinda miss her in a differen sort of way...I know they loved me...and they loved God too...and taught me about His love.

I am thankful for my husband...who loves me pretty much unconditionally...and would give me anything I want...or do anything for me that is within his power to do...and besides that is a great dad...and incredibly handsome...and does his own laundry...and makes the bed...and prays for me...and is so much more than I deserve...or ever thought I could have.

I am thankful for my children...all seven of them...with their unique personalities...and their talents and abilities...and their challenges...and the many things that God is teaching me through them...and the incredible privilege of being their mama.

I am thankful for God's Word...in my own language...which I can afford...and carry with me...and read whenever I want...or need to

I am thankful for mountains...trees...oceans, rivers, and lakes

for sunrises...cool morning walks...and a warm cuppa tea

for books...and music...and art...and poetry...and for those with the gifts to create beauty...and the desire to share

It's a sign of mediocrity when you demonstrate gratitude with moderation.

Thursday 29 November 2007 - Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for:

  1. A trustworthy friend with an auto repair shop
  2. A commission check coming tomorrow ~ so we can pay for the repairs
  3. 10 healthy people in our home again
  4. Brothers & sisters in the Lord
  5. Dear friends who are far away and greatly missed
  6. Neighbours who we are slowly getting to know
  7. The blessing of praying for others

 Oh, give thanks to the LORD!
      Call upon His name;
      Make known His deeds among the peoples!

 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;
      Talk of all His wondrous works!

 Glory in His holy name;
      Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the LORD!

 Seek the LORD and His strength;
      Seek His face evermore!

~1 Chronicles 16:8-11

Wednesday 28 November 2007 - Thankful Wednesday

A sensible thanksgiving for mercies received is a mighty prayer in the Spirit of God. It prevails with Him unspeakably.

~John Bunyan -- born on this date in 1628

~The Lamb~
~by William Blake -- born on this date in 1757

   Little lamb, who made thee?
   Does thou know who made thee,
Gave thee life, and bid thee feed
By the stream and o'er the mead;
Gave thee clothing of delight,
Softest clothing, woolly, bright;
Gave thee such a tender voice,
Making all the vales rejoice?
   Little lamb, who made thee?
   Does thou know who made thee?

   Little lamb, I'll tell thee;
   Little lamb, I'll tell thee:
He is called by thy name,
For He calls Himself a Lamb.
He is meek, and He is mild,
He became a little child.
I a child, and thou a lamb,
We are called by His name.
   Little lamb, God bless thee!
   Little lamb, God bless thee!

Thank You, Father in heaven, for the most precious gift of Your Son ~ Whose nativity we will soon be celebrating ~ and Whose return we watch for.

Tuesday 27 November 2007 - Thankful Monday & Tuesday

Monday:

I went to Half Price Books and found one missing Magic Treehouse Book for the set I gave Lulapalooza for his birthday.  I also was able to pick up a couple more books for J-Man for his upcoming birthday.  I found one book that we can use in history studies next year, and I found not only a prayer book (something for which I have been on the lookout for a long time ~ and it starts with Advent!), but a copy of Devotional Classics by Richard Foster as well.  All of this cost less than $20.  Thank You, God, for these little blessings and the many more that you send my way daily.

Tuesday:

Well, I have three sick girls, but since the Bible says to give thanks in everything, that is what I will try to do.  I am very thankful that I am able to be here at home when my children feel icky and need mama.  I am thankful that my husband wants me to stay home rather than work somewhere else for a paycheck.  I am thankful that even though his job does not pay as much as we might like, it pays enough for us to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table and me at home.  I am thankful for the blessing of my children and the honour of caring for them.  I am thankful that the girls just have a simple stomach virus which will pass in a day or so.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

~ 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Sunday 25 November 2007 - Thankful Sunday

Psalm 95:1-6

 O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

 In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also.

 The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.

 O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.
