Mama to 3
Sep. 18, 2006 - I am having such a hard time with this highschool thing......
I don't post nearly as much as I should but here goes.... I am starting 9th grade with my oldest dear darling. I have the Math down as we will be using Teaching Textbooks Algebra I this year. The problem now is Science. We are using Abeka's Physical Science 9th grade and I mean it is tough.... I have an elementary ed. background. You do not teach the metric system in kindergarten.LOL I wish sometimes we could just stick with History and Language Arts. As you have probably guessed the Maths and Sciences are not my strong suit. I am still so thankful for this opportunity and want it to be the best that it can be. Anyway, if anyone has a better suggestion I sure would love to here it.
Blessings,

Jun. 24, 2006 - Having such a hard time keeping up.....
I have another blog over at Homestead blogger and I mean I am having such a hard time keeping up with it all. I don't even do many entries over there. I spend entirely too much time reading so many of them. We have just started our homestead adventure so I spend a good bit of time over there reading up. However, I have been homeschooling now for 5 years and I am about to embark on a new adventure HIGHSCHOOL. I am absolutely scared to death about this. It has to be done right! right? LOL Anyway, as I will be keeping a transcript this year, I am really debating over the curriculum I will be using for my DD who will be entering the 9th grade. This is so incredibly sad to me. It just convicts me more and more how very, little, precious, time I have left to influence this young ladies life. Especially for the Lord Jesus Christ. I would love to here from some of you veterans as to what you will be using for Highschool.
Blessings,

Jun. 14, 2006 - God's awesomeness in the garden.....
The garden has taken us over. This was our first very meager attempt at gardening. I have to say it would have probably been a lot cheaper to just go to the farmer's market. Oh, but it would not have been as rewarding. We have seen such faithfulness in God. If we are faithful He will be faithful We were ignorant and He has still blessed it.... We are getting squash, zuchinni, okra, and peppers out everyday. The pole beans and bush beans should be ready soon. The corn has little silky tops on it. Also, the cantaloupe and watermelon are getting bigger and bigger. We are loaded with green tomatoes. I would love to fry them up now but we have a rule that we have to get some red ones before picking them green. I hate rules sometimes. LOL. I have to say this has been one of our most rewarding projects thus far.
Going to play in the dirt with my blessings,

May. 8, 2006 - Gardening 101 as a homeschool project!!!!
Here are a few pictures of our garden that we planted about 4 weeks ago. It is amazing how fast it is growing. We have tiny cherry tomatoes already. God is so good. We are just loving every minute of watching how He works. This has been about the best project we have had and we haven't even eaten the bount yet. LOL

Here is the corn. Yes, we know we need to weed. LOL Believe it or not we work on the weeding all the time. I don't know which is growing faster the vegetables or the grass.

This is the squash. They look like they might have blooms pretty soon. At the end is zuchinni.

Here are the beloved tomatoes. These are like gold. We have planted 23 and will probably plant more later in the summer as these start to play out.
I hope you enjoyed the pics as much as we are.
Blessings,

May. 4, 2006 - Teaching Textbooks
Has anyone used this curriculum for upper math, such as pre-algebra or algebra? When we were at field day today, ofcourse the topic for most of the day was, none other than, curriculum. You know how it is when you get a bunch of homeschool moms together. Excitement, Excitement!!LOL Anyway, my oldest DD has had a hard time grasping Algebra. We have used Saxon and now Abeka. A dear homeschool mom was telling me how good this teaching textbooks curriculum was. If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them.
Thanks....
Blessings,
Trixi

May. 4, 2006 - Homeschool Field Day!!!
Today was our year end Homeschool field day. Here are some pics of my children. We do very little with the Homeschool group but we love this. They do sack races, relays, tug-o-war, and so on. It's a great time of fun and fellowship.

This is my son in the sack race.

This is him again in the egg race.

This is my youngest daughter in the tug-o-war.

This is my oldest daughter getting ready for the sack race.
I have tons more but they all have other peoples children in them and I don't like to post other children. I wouldn't want someone putting mine on without permission. We again had a wonderful day and the weather could not have been more perfect. God is good.
Blessings,
Trixi

Apr. 11, 2006 - Gardening as school this week!!
DH was off yesterday and he started tilling the garden spot up. This has turned out to be the main part of our school this week. The kids have been helping. They have been shoveling the horse manure into the garden area. Believe it or not my youngest son is loving all of this work. He has asked today if he can go out and finish shoveling. I said sure... I am sure this could count as horticulture, couldn't it?LOL. I wish I could get my picks to download but I am having computer probs. I will post them as soon as all is resolved.
Blessings,

Mar. 23, 2006 - Blogging Here
I have not been blogging here regularly because I have been enjoying the blogging over at Homesteadblogger so much. I hope to change that. I just can't seem to find time for blogging at both and reading everyone else's posts. I would love to hear from anyone who might be using Ray's arithmetic and hear what your thoughts are on it.
Thanks ahead of time.
Blessings,

Dec. 20, 2005 - My Husband is on His Way Home
Well, today is the day. Praise the Lord... My husband should be on his way out of Camp Kaslu, Iraq, today. They are 9 hours ahead of us and by now he should be out of there. I havent heard from him via phone or email today. That is a good sign, that he is in transition. He has been gone from day to day living in our home since July of 2004. We have not seen him since June 2005. I dont even know how we will act when he is finally home. I pray that it will be an easy transition. I pray that I will easily give up the reigns as head of household and gladly give him his position back. That is my desire. He should be home by the end of the month. It takes about a week to get back to the U.S. and then he will have a few days of debriefing at his base. We are so excited!!!!
