I get an email regularly from the "Daily Babble" - with interesting articles, ideas for baby toys, etc - one of the things i signed up for while waiting for baby Mielle..
Today's article was "5 Minute Time Out: Jen Singer" by Jennifer Hughes - "the author on why stay at home moms should have their own holiday"... too provocative to pass up! and I loved her idea, and the positive approach...
i love the idea of a mom's holiday... but honestly, i take one every week. i'm a homeschool mom with seven children, i teach them fiddle, piano and Latin, plus a chronological survey of history with logic and worldview studies (on top of the basics, and of course with potty training, nursing etc)...
I would go insane if i did that monday to friday and then spent the weekend doing whatever my husband wants to do on his "time off"... so i started taking time off myself.
Fridays i call "Fun Fabulous Fridays' - whatever we do, i don't feel guilty about it. I'll take everyone to the park all day, with whatever snacks i can find in the fridge and hopefully some water and some bandaids, or i'll pitch my tent in the backyard and let them drag all the blankets out there while i read my book, or if baby is napping, lock my bedroom door and catch up on scrapbooking, or do some sewing i've been wanting to get to... the phrase "kitchen raid" has entered my children's vocabularies, and in the winter, couch cushions are not off limits, blankets get turned into fortress walls, treaties get written out and coats of arms created and deciphered, video games, books, paints, everything that interests anyone. It makes a mess, but we usually have a little clean up before Daddy gets home, and all's well...
If i didn't have my secret weapon Fridays, i'd never get to do anything i like... I've got a great husband, but he can't read my mind, and there's not always time to go to "scrapbook land" AND the weight lifting store... so i'd rather get my stuff done and relax on my own special day :) - every single week! |
