I'm feeling bloggy today :)
I don't have a LOT in my yard, because i have a passel of littles who are none to gentle with delicate/pretty/growing things.
What i do have is a yard swing (three person) with a little shade over top - i bought this with my birthday money a few years ago and i'm so glad I did. I know summer is so short, but it's so nice to be out there on a day like today with a new book (i read the Shack today - and posted a review in another blog post if anyone wants to discuss...), rocking and holding a baby or cuddling up to someone who is kinda wet from the kiddy pool...
I have a big sandbox (8' by 8') :), and two big containers with plants in them - right now it's just greenery, but i'm thinking some kind of flowers will come up from what we planted last year. I would like to get some more big containers and use those, as the ground will warm up quicker? someone told me - so you have a little longer season if it is above the ground level... - we are also trying to copy this idea : http://apassionatehousewifedesperateforgod.blogspot.com/2008/06/fairy-play-house.html - the boys are a little put out because it was their "armoury" in that shed, but they didn't use much of the space, and we have so much girly stuff around the house that has no home (i found a little heart shaped door knocker just today to add to it!)...
I also dug up a little tiny plot of grass close to the deck and put in peas at the back, which are coming up, and three lovely healthy tomato plants that my friend Natalie grew - they were so beautiful and vigorous when i got them, but if they survive this year and give me a tomato i will be surprised... although the littles are helping me water them regularly...
I think i prefer growing things over decorations in a yard - or just things found in nature - in one corner, we have some bigger rocks that dh found and carried home, Hercules style :) - he wants to put a little rock wall somewhere ... I did have one of those umbrella clothes dryers in the back yard, but it got broken over the winter (i think i was supposed to dismantle it for the winter... argh... live and learn!) - and it looks nicer without it. I am thinking of getting another foldy one for in the basement - and just using it out of doors during the summer... i love diapers dried in the sun...
I'm enjoying looking forward to my THIRD year in the same house. This is the first time i've had that since we moved to Kelowna for grades 9,10, 11 and 12. ... I'm figuring out how i like things in this house. And right now, i'm thinking about my yard... |
