Oct. 21, 2006 - Do Not Worry
There is an old saying that says if you want to get something done, you should ask a busy person to do it. That is so true. When I am not busy, I tend to procrastinate with things I could be doing, and when I am busy, my to-do list gets longer and longer as I get more things done. Here are some things on my to-do list right now: -Finish world lit lesson 3 (finish the 3rd paper and type up all 3 papers) -Find a proctor for my midterm -Study for my midterm -Work on articles for Faith Writers -Read David Copperfield for our book club and go over the study questions -Read Hamlet Acts 1.3-2 and prepare a lesson for Tuesday for the British lit class Im teaching to homeschoolers -Read The Worst Hard Times so I can pass it on to other family members to read -Read Of Plymouth Plantation since Thanksgiving is next month -Listen to whatever Christian Controversies in American History cd (from Vision Forum) corresponds to Thanksgiving and the Puritans. -Blog about all the ideas floating around in my head -Finish the purse I am quilting -etc. On top of all that I am a NaNoWriMo participant which means I will be trying to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days in November (National Novel Writing Month). They actually say that being busy is better for your writing because when youre not busy, you procrastinate and do everything except write. I have found that to be true. *smile* So next month I plan to get everything on my to-do list done, plus a novel besides that. :-) Praise God I am busy, because it means I am more likely to get everything done. Do not think, though, that I am worried about finishing all of this stuff. Today I do what I can and tomorrow will worry about itself. Besides, most of the things on my list are things that I actually like doing. Here are some good passages about worrying from a book I have (The Compact Treasury of Inspiration edited by Kenneth Seeman Giniger): One of the commonest things we have to face every day is worry. It always comes from fear of some kind, which is your greatest enemy, the real enemy of your own personality
Your Bible is the best textbook you can buy on how not to worry, and the Lords prayer tells you something about this for it says, Give us this day our daily bread. It means live one day at a time; for when we live on yesterdays bread, the happenings of yesterday or yesteryear, then we die mentally, physically and spiritually. Take no thought for the morrow; many things we worry about never happen to us at all. We are all too busy crossing bridges before we come to them; we do not practice our Christian Faith every day as we live. Life is a ceaseless change; the only certainty is today. Why worry over the past? Why even think about the future? You will live a defeated life if you constantly think about your past failures. Worry is the interest which we pay on trouble before it comes, and we attract trouble every time we worry about it. Matthew 6:31-33 says, Therefore take no thought, saying, what shall we eat? Or, what shall we drink? Or, wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the If we put God first in our lives and seek after Him by spending time with Him each day, we will have no reason to worry, because we can have faith that He will provide for us.

Oct. 21, 2006 - Yay, Nano!!
As a 2004 participant I want to say WooHoo and Have Fun! As a mom with three small kids it was a BIG challenge, and my fingers were numb along with other parts! But it was so fun. And to have a completed book, albeit 50,000 words, brought with it a great sense of accomplishment. So all this to say, YEAH!!! And I'll be cheering for you. Oops, edited to ALSO say congratulations on blogger of the week!

I saw on your blog how much you enjoy writing so I wanted to advise you about Nano - cause I can't control it, sorry!!!! Turn off your editor. You can edit in December, January, February, etc. Just put it all in there. Even the dumb stuff. Don't allow yourself to delete. OK? My internal editor is VERY strict (I'm sure you don't have my problem) and at the beginning I would delete paragraphs...and 50,000 words got farther away. So there. I got if off my chest. Forgive me for my weakness. :) And, thanks for saying "hi!"
Oct. 23, 2006 - Congrats!

Do you think you'll post portions of your book? I'd be happy to read it and not offer any critique whatsoever!! My book, my "baby," was very difficult for me to share - I was actually nervous!!! I also have to admit that I only shared it with people who I was confident loved me very much - book or no! Anyway, have fun and I'm excited for you!!!!!!
