Recap of our Hot Fourth
|
We did end up getting to do something fun for the 4th this year. In the afternoon, we went to an old-fashioned Independence Day celebration at the historic farm nearby. It was HOT outside. When we got back home, we made homemade vanilla ice cream and watched old episodes of The Waltons while trying to cool off. After a barbequed dinner, we did our own fireworks out in front of our house, once it got dark.
Here are some pics (click to enlarge):
Chocolate cream pies for the pie-eating contest

A potato sack race in the hot sun (ugh – doesn’t that sound fun? Not.). We watched it from the shade.

This pretty peacock was roaming around the picnic tables.

Me

Sheep

Flowers in the garden

They have a big garden area, but it looked like it really needed some TLC.

Dad in the garden wearing his Crocodile Dundee hat.

A shady tree

Jigs the horse that pulled us in the train back to the front gate. He had so much energy that he trotted while pulling maybe 25-30 people.

Emily in a cloud of smoke with sparklers

Fireworks to end the day.

Hello
Oh you did? That's good! I try to let people know who I am at the first, because yes, it does get confusing!
Yes, we had a GREAT time with them!
I don't like white chocolate, in fact, I hate it! I'm sticking with the origanal chocolate!
Thanks for stopping by. You can read the post I just posted now, it's about Narnia! You can also go to my homestead blog on my sidebar in my links, I would love to get a homesteady comment from you!

Sounds like a fun Independence Day! We went to something like that last year. But this year, with Daddy working and all, we just stayed home and celebrated that evening.
I haven't tried any salsa yet..... but I plan to soon. :-)
I won't be on a whole lot for a while. My Mama got injured by our milk cow, (I put the whole story on my blog), and that puts me in the "Mama position" until she gets better. :-) Not that I mind at all, (!), but it cuts back on stuff I'd normally do.
Have a great day!
Blessings,
Becca

Looks like you had a great 4th! We have a tradition (us and another family) of decorating our bikes with flags and streamers and riding around town. We did that again this year, but it was so hot that no one was outside to see us. Too bad.
After that we had that same family over for BBQ at our house. We also had homemade ice cream. We ate so much that we felt the need to exercise afterward. So we put my brother's truck in nutral and pushed it up and down the road! Loads of fun.

Sounds like a fun 4th. We didn't do anything.... we usually spend it with my grandparents, but didn't get to this year.
How are things going for you? I hope you have a great week. :-)

Mandy-
I was very happy to leave you a comment.
You should read them all, they are very fun to read. I was trying to point out some things that C.S. Lewis put into his books from the Bible is all. I try to have a biblical worldview.
Please stop by and read my latest post!

Hi Mandy!
Aw, thank you. :-)
Mama's feeling better, thankfully! But she's definitely not back to normal, and she won't be for awhile.
Thanks for your prayers!
Blessings & Love,
Becca
