A Tale of A Multicultural Family........................Life As We Know It

Oct. 28, 2008 - 2 parks, a plantation, & pumpkin donuts

It was such beautiful weather this past weekend. Sunshine, low 70s, light breeze... Gorgeous. Sunday, the kids and I went to Cherokee Park to play on the playground...then we walked around and collected leaves. They have great maples and poplars there which have bright red & orange leaves this time of year. Then we went by the historic Farmington Plantation. Didn't take the tour...they charge too much. But we were able to drive by and check out the houses. It's claim to fame is that it was lived in by the Speed family, who were friends with Abraham Lincoln. Then we stopped by Dunkin Donuts and everyone got a pumpkin doughnut. We then went to Iroquois Park and drove to the top of the hill to check out the view of the city. Our first time up there...the kids decided we needed to go back for a picnic.

Oct. 24, 2008 - Field Trips in Louisville - to do

There are many places just in the Louisville city limits that I still have not checked out. Some would make great field trips for my oldest daughter. The main thing that has kept me from already visiting these places is the cost involved and finding someone to watch the 2 little ones while we go. Some of these would be fun for them, but others would be a drag for kids their age.

1. Thomas Edison House

2. Muhammad Ali Center

3. Rauch Planetarium

4. American Printing House for the Blind

5. KY Derby Museum

6. A Taste of KY

7. Churchill Downs

8. Frazier International History Museum

9. Locust Grove

10. Louisville Orchestra

11. Speed Art Museum

If anyone reading this is familiar with the Louisville area and knows of something cool to do that is not on my list, please let me know!!

Oct. 20, 2008 - Why a KY Category?

So I have added a Kentucky category. I have lived here for a few years now...it's been off and on really. I went to high school on a military base here. I left and came back a few times. My parents stayed in the area after my dad's retirement from the military.

I have never enjoyed being here. I used to compare KY to a black hole...because I felt like I kept getting sucked back here. But we are here...we have bought a house...and we are raising our 3kids here close to grandparents. So it is time that I make my peace with this state.

I thought a good way to do that is by forcing myself to blog about the positive things KY has to offer. Not to say that there won't be an entry that slips in that is a little less than positive...feel free to check me on that. I hope it will help me to see the good in this state since it appears that we will be here for a while.

I am not a country girl...this state is mostly rural. I love the big city, and Louisville is not big enough for me. So I am kind of stuck in between. Here goes...
