Oct. 23, 2008 - Beginner Bible Bowl |
My 10 year old daughter is participating in Beginner Bible Bowl. To give you a little background...it is like quick recall...they learn questions and Bible quotes and participate in competitions. Her favorite part is the buzzers! I am in awe of how much she has learned already. I wouldn't be able to do in a year what she has done in 2 months.
This block has the typical 200 or so questions, but the tough part is that it is chock full of quotes. 27 to be exact. And the BBB rules are: it has to be word for word or they will not get the points. She kind of freaked out a little when we got started. So I gave her a little challenge. I told her that all she had to do was take 1 quote every day and work on it. Not perfect it, but just familiarize yourself with it. Then the next day, start on a new one and review the one from the day before. Then to make it a little extra special, I added a prize for completion. If she memorized all 27 quotes in time for the next competition (it gives her right at a month) I would take her and a friend to the movie theater to watch the new High School Musical movie. She's about half way through, with 2 more weeks to go. I think she's gonna make it. And between you and me, I'm gonna take her to the movie regardless because she has been working her little butt off. The whole point is that she memorizes scripture. If she only gets 15 that is still fantastic. That's 15 more than I know! But because she enjoys a little competition...I have to make the stakes high.

Oct. 15, 2008 - more thoughts from Beth Moore |
A few days ago, I wrote about the Living Proof live event I was able to attend featuring Beth Moore. You can read that here.
Another aspect of her talk was about being competently competent for God. Basically meaning being as useful as you can possiby be for the purpose of sharing God's word. The ways she said you can do this is to:
1. Treasure the Wonder (meaning the wonder of the word of God). We must continually study His word...make it a regular habit because of progressive revelation -- He slowly opens doors to us throughout our life. Hebrews 11:2-3 - God systematically reveals secrets to us. I don't want to miss out!
2. Protect Your Heart. Hide the word in your heart and protect it from Satan - do not allow him to snatch it.
3. Expect the Test. As I mentioned before, testing occurs to show how much we truly believe what we have just learned.
4. Dig the Roots. Roots in the fact that you know God loves you.
5. Stop the Choke. Anxiety will choke the word right out of you. Worrying shows that we skipped step #4 - didn't dig our roots in Jesus Christ. Don't get caught up - insisting that life feeling good all the time is a sign of immaturity...and is a trap for bondage and addiction.
**Satan cannot make us lost our salvation, but he can take our effetiveness**
6. Retain the Word.
7. Press forth to our 100 fold Harvest.
Revelation 10:5-7 (paraphrased): There is a time coming when all answers will be revealed - knowledge of secrets of kingdom of God revealed to you. |
