More Books!
|
We got more books, today! I'm most excited about the Italian curriculum. We've decided to learn it as a "family" - meaning, me and the kids (I'm sure my husband will pick some of it up by default). I've got items for both the 9th grader and the kindergartener, plus a special feature for the kitchen since my son loves to cook. We're even going to do special Italian days where we **attempt** to cook some authentic Italian cuisine.
I guess this helps to curb my desire to go back to school. I never did finish college, and at this point in my life, honestly, I don't see the need. Having our own business, home schooling the kids and serving in the children's ministry in our church - that's enough. I've gained enough knowledge over the years to know that it's the eternal things in life that matter. I'll be fine learning (and in some cases re-learning) right alongside my kids!
By the way - very exciting news here in Virginia. A few months ago a new law was passed that allowed parents with only high school diplomas to homeschool their children without jumping through a million hoops. Yippee! This year I just had to submit two pieces of paper - test scores and our letter of intent. So nice!!
Anyone else from Virginia in these blogs??

Jul. 27, 2006 - I keep a check on the VA laws!

My husband and I are both from VA. I grew up in Pulaski county which is close to RU and VT. I went to RU and one brother went to VT (Go Hokies). Anyway, my dh grew up in Culpeper county. I taught in Rappahannock county which is near Culpeper and that is where we met. Anyway, my aunts (I mentioned in last comment) homeschooled in Northern VA. I knew it was pretty hard unless you had a Bachelor's. We moved before ours would be ready for school, but I have tried to stay up on the process in case we move back. I am glad to hear that they have become a little more homeschooler friendly now. Do you have to do standardized testing or do they allow portfolio evaluation? Here in Florida they requrie either test or portfolio evaluation by a state certified teacher annually. I wish I had tried to transfer my teacher's liscense down here so I could have maybe taken a few tests or classes or something and then I could be an evaluator for additional income and support to other homeschoolers. But alas, I did not. Anyway, I am glad it is easier for you and I hope that you are excited and ready to start your year! I will be praying for you and look forward to hearing about your successes! In Him, Eva

I wish I could see your blog as I type this! I always forget to mention something the first time! :)
I love the pictures!!! Your slide show presentation is sooooo neat. I haven't seen that on anyone else's site! Tell me how you did it if you don't mind! If you don't have time now, beginning of school and all, I understand! BTW, my husband usually roots for UV! :) Eva
