• Jul. 31, 2007 - Manners Unit Study

Although manners are something we should pay attention to everyday. I took the time to talk about, read about, and demonstrate different areas of courtesy to others and proper behavior at the table or when guest are in the home.

We honestly don't have regular guests in our home so we had some tea parties and extra play dates at our home rather than out at the park.

We read in a Pooh book about manners and then tried to carry out those good manners with our guests. All the children learned something.

Daddy is very good at drawing attention to good table manners ( I think he had more sit down meals with his family growing up;^) Mommy even learns new skills in this area.

I picked up an old 1917 booklet that was published for teaching manners.

I plan to use this through out the year with the family.

We need more work also on phone manners because we are making more friends and the phone rings more often now!

I would like to be more hospitable having guests in our home regularly.

We pray that we can grow more in this area together as a family.

Update - April 2008: I decided to write a few children's books about manners using people in our family as hte characters. Jacinda's Tea Time is one title and Jannie and Grandma's Baking Day  is another.
