We started out reading some books from the library.
Birdie's Lighthouse Deborah Hopkinson was a charming account of a young girl 's adventures growing up a lighthousekeeper's daughter. She had many adventures.
Treasure Chest was a beautiful poetic account of a girl that grew up a lighthouse keeper's only daughter -until they received a live S.O.S. in a trunk. A ship's Captain and his wife that perished just beyond the lighthouse one evening in a terrible tempest had committed their their only child an infant girl to the Lord for her safety much like that of Moses in being placed in a basket and set upon the waters. I was in tears! I did find I had to simplify wording a bit for the children that they might be equally as touched with the understanding. |
