Maplewood Cottage Home-Lessons

• Aug. 28, 2008 - Today First Attempt to Do a Combined Preschool

Though we had a few lessons in the past weeks with our neighbor girls present I'd not made sure everyone was getting something out of the time being spent.

Today I had prepared well and spent MOST of my time and energy trying to get EVERYONE to FOCUS.

The results were fair at best. I need to pray more about this. Is this what we should be doing even just one day a week? That didn't seem like a big commitment before I tried putting the idea into practice but it surely does take a lot of my energy.

Maybe after the baby comes it will be less stressful? Honestly I have my doubts though

Today in Proverbs I came across this:
A man's steps are of the Lord; how then can a man know his own way? Prov. 20:24

I have been pondering it ever since!

Anyone  have comments of how to help 2, 3, 4, and 5 year old girls FOCUS with a 1.5 yo. and 3mo. needing their mom's attention... and I am also giving some simple instruction for  a short lesson to the 7 and 8 yo boys. And I will have a new born in two months to care for as well.

Update 12-12-08 We have had opportunity to have the other children over many times in the last several months. we've done table work and some games. It has worked out well when their parents have an appointment during the month we have them over and keep them busy!

I tried that before too with some friends. I also found that it was too much work for me so we didn't continue. I'm sure it works great for some but I found it to be too stressful.

Only two months? It's going by fast! Though you may not feel that way. I'm excited for you!

God Bless, Pam

Well though I still am praying about how much to do as a group...
I was really blessed that when I sat my neighbors children while she went to have an ultra sound to see how her new one is developing... her eldest girl a bit older than Lina was thrilled to have the TV off except for a 30 min story video and focus on sitting with me and reading 6 books, coloring, and even being my helper! Again I wasn't able to fully engage all the children but in a 3 hour period we'd done quite a bit together and even the little guy who's 1.5 enjoyed himself doing most everything we did!

So I will keep looking for opportunities to enjoy the children this way even if we don't do a scheduled school time.
