back to fasting goals
| This week it has been a bit rough not having the electronic babysitter. I am ashamed at how much I used the TV for a babysitter. I do NOT want to get back into old habits, even after the 40 day fast is over. I guess having a family of 8 we just keep accumulating STUFF....I have got to weed it out and get control over lthe atomosphere of my home. Lord help me to clearly see what is important and what is not. Help me to look around the house today and see...really see what STUFF needs to go! I cleaned my bedroom yesterday and oh my it was sooooo nice to go to bed in a truely clean room. I want my entire house to have that free feeling!

NO TV!
| Okay, untill today it had actually been pretty easy to do "no tv". Today I really want to turn it on....it seems I can not get anything done. I need time...there is so much to be done. I can't seem to do it all and take care of and school all 6 children (9 mos to 8 yrs). So, I have not turned on the tv, and I do not plan to. I just wanted you all to know that it is difficult today.

making time for the children
| Yesterday I was not a very patient mama. My home is a mess...and no I did not cave and let them watch tv. Today things a little less chaotic and a bit cleaner. Today I am determined to really make time for them. Listen to them, play with them and just be with them. The house does need to have some sense of being sanitary, but my relationship with my children is more important than all the stuff. I do need to declutter my life, but not today. Today we are just going to have fun! Not a stressfull day of workbooks and chores.
Have a blessed day! |

God.tv and the International house of Prayer!
| This is from my Wonderful Husband! Check out chafferfamily.com
********Shalom in Yeshua, King of the Universe, beloved friends of the Bridegroom!
I'm excited to announce that as I write, my church - IHOP / Forerunner Christian Fellowship - is sending a LIVE signal to Jerusalem via satellite of our 24 hour prayer and intercession. You can watch (until 12 noon central time today - and many other various times) on the God.TV website. You can also watch ALL the prayer and intercession LIVE at any time day or night it free for a few days on theprayerroom.god.tv at the God.TV site.
This is the deal. We could possibly be seeing the fulfillment... or pre-fulfillment, foreshadowing... of the glorious promise in both Isaiah 2:3 & Micah 4:2
"For the Word of the Lord shall go forth from Zion!"
You see, a wacky, godly couple named Rory and Wendy Alec have been used by Yahweh, in a record-setting amount of time, to reach around 425 million people with the gloriously good news that the Maker of the Universe is also the humble Servant King of humanity - Yeshua, our Messiah, and His pouring out of His life on a crucifixion stake - the Passover Lamb! So they've been broadcasting from Jerusalem for a few years now, but, as of this last Sunday evening, May 27th, 2007, IHOP has been providing 180 hours a week of original programming! That compares with the entire global crew of CNN - from one church in one location! And, as if that weren't cool enough, we're broadcasting from Jerusalem!
To find out more visit my new site - chafferfamily.com
Blessings be yours in Yeshua, our Beautiful One.
Toma

my goals during this 40 day fast from TV
| --That I we become a more attentive to the "still small voice" of God
--That I would become a more attentive and more helpful wife....helping in the ways that are truely needed...not just my perspective of what needs helping.
--That I would be a more attentive mother, really listening and engaging with the children, that I would begin to persue things with them that interest them, that I would beigin to truly use the teachable moments to teach lessons that they will stay with them so that even when "they are old they will not depart from it"
--That I become less associated with "stuff", and more tuned into the life all around me, that during this fast that I would truly weed out the "stuff" that is holding me back from the wife, mother and women of God that I was created to be.
--That I would become more confident in who I am in God
--That I would begin to have a desire to truly be hospitable...not just something I should do...but something I really desire to do and do with JOY
--That I would begin to smile at the "world" around me instead of having a cold heart towards people, that I would be a light in a dark world.

40 day fast from TV
| God has graciously raised up Lou Engle to call America to a 40 day fast. Lou has mobilized thousands of leaders who are committed to this vision as well. All the major Christian TV networks are announcing it to get the word out - it is time for America to fast and pray as a nation. The article below, written by Lou, explains the urgency behind this initiative. The IHOP-KC family is standing with The Call and belivers during these 40 days. Please forward this to everyone you know who has a heart for America.

****My husband will be fasting from food during this 40 day fast. I really wanted to do some kind of fast with the children as well. A time to focus more on the Lord, reading the bible and praying. For quite some time I have come to rely on the TV for a babysitter. It seems that there is always "something" and I have deemed TV ok for many reasons. I know that this is not right. So for the next 40 days and hopefully beyond we will be tv free. My oldest son, J, has volutarily decided to give up his gameboy for the 40 days as well. I am going to give the 3 older children a journal that is just for this fast. I plan on trying to update my blog on a daily basis for the next 40 days, so I can share the highlights. I challenge you all, if you have a TV lets all turn it off for the next 40 days and draw closer to the lord.

Rocket Readers
| Things have been very very busy around here! I hope that you all a wonderful time celebrating the birth, of Jesus our Savior!
I just had to come and write about these great easy readers I have found. I actually bought them at the Dollar Tree for $1 a set. But, here is there website, rocketreaders.com. It is great to have some new easy readers, that are bible based. My daughter still needs lots of practice, she know how to sound out words, but she also will memorize books and then does not really practice sounding out the words anymore. I was able to buy 6 sets at Dollar Tree, so she has plenty of reading for awhile. I still want to go back and just make sure that I did not miss any other sets. They are $8.99 on the website, Yikes, quite a mark up, but still if she runs out of these, I would be willing to pay the price. for a few more sets.
Blessings to you this coming New Year! Happy reading! |

Helpful and Encouraging websites for large homschooling families- part 2
|
Today I have a couple of sites for homeschooling, pre-k to 3rd grade. For phonics and reading check out starfall.com. Starfall.com has free prinable books and worksheets. The free printables are black and white, but for a bit of money you can order the color versions. We have done the balck and white and the children color the pictures in the books with colored pencils. The children can also read and play with the books on-line!
Another great site is learningpage.com. Learningpage.com has worksheets for pre-k to 3rd grade. They also have theme units, we have done ths space theme. It was very fun and the children learned a lot. They have big murals that you can print, color and put together.
This is a super great resource! I used the pretty much excusively for the basics when my oldest was in kindergarten.
So if you have young schoolers check out these sites.

Helpful and Encouraging websites for large homschooling families
| Well I am finally getting started on my blog. I thought that I would get started by just sharing websites that have been encouraging or helpful to me. The first site that I would like to share with you is www.hillbillyhousewife.com. I visit this site nearly everyday. There are many recipes, that are made with things that I usually have on hand. I am learning how to feed my family of 8 on a budget. Although, I do not agree with everything that is on www.hillbillyhousewife.com, I still find it very helpful. I still use butter and buy organic when I can. But, there are times when I cannot, so I am learning to be flexible. I am very grateful for all the information that she provides. I love her magic milkshake recipe it's great when you crave chocolate. http://hillbillyhousewife.com/magicmilkshakes.htm Well, that is all for now. Come back soon and I will be sure to post more links. In the future I will talk about marriage (striving to be a Proverbs 31 wife), mothering, homescchooling, discipline, and homemaking. Blessings, Michelle |
