Life as a Civil War Soldier

My new rifle!!

I finally have my own rifle for reenacting! I contacted the private on Thursday and he said that he would come drop the rifle off the next day! I can't explain the excitement that I had waiting for him the next day. Here is a few pictures:

This rifle is a 1853 Enfield which was the second most commonly issued rifle during the Civil War on both sides. They were imported or should I say smuggled over from England to America (The Queen of England did not want  to take sides during the War because of political reasons). The rifle is a .58 caliber and is about 55 inches tall (it almost comes up to my chin and I'm 5' 6"!). It so is 9 lbs. which sounds light but after about 30 miles of marching it seems like a ton!!

Great rifle!!! Grandpa and I will be excited to see it in November. Sounds like you can't wait to shoot some Rebels. Teehee
Love Grandpa and Grandma :o)
