Trip to Fort Point

We went to San Francisco on Saturday to go to Fort Point. I really never knew where Fort Point was until I looked on the 20th Maine website. Surprisingly the fort is right under the Golden Gate Bridge!! The original plan for the bridge was to destroy the fort to make room for bridge. But thankfully for us history freaks and Civil War reenactors the plans were changed so the bridge went over the fort!! The fort was built by U.S. Corps of Engineers to protect the bay from enemy ships. The fort was used during the Civil War but saw no conflict. Here is a picture of the fort:
